CA: Rain, wind, snow to pummel the region (Wet Week Ahead Alert!)
San Diego Union-Tribune ^ | 12/12/08 | Robert Krier

Posted on 12/12/2008 1:17:49 PM PST by NormsRevenge

The county's weather is about to go from mild to wild.

A late-fall blast of air from northern Canada should bring an abrupt halt to nearly 2½ months of unseasonably warm, calm weather in this region.

Over the next week, temperatures should plummet to well below normal, a series of storm fronts could bring heavy rain at the coast and inland valleys, and howling winds and snow could create blizzard conditions in the mountains.

“This is the kind of classic winter storm that we haven't seen too much of in recent years,” said Ed Clark, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

The rain could begin as early as tomorrow morning, although forecasters expect the heaviest downpours to start late Sunday or early Monday. The beaches could receive as much as three inches of rain by next Friday, and the mountains could get a foot or more of snow above 4,000 feet.

The expected foul weather will likely prompt winter-storm and flash-flood watches for the mountains and foothills starting late Sunday, Clark said. Winds could gust at 40 to 50 mph in the mountains, which could create dangerous white-outs. West of the mountains, gusts could reach 25 mph.

A small-craft advisory is likely for the near-shore waters, and flooding is possible in low-lying coastal areas because of high tides and heavy surf.

“I also wouldn't be surprised if we had waterspouts and funnel clouds,” Clark said. The weather service is beefing up its staffing for the week to deal with the anticipated deluges.

Tom McWay, who runs the Laguna Mountain Lodge, is getting ready as well. Yesterday, he put out snow shovels, gassed up the snowplow, buttoned up windows and put plastic over vents to keep the cold out and prevent pipes from freezing. He had his winter jacket ready but remained in fair-weather mode.

“I'm still wearing shorts and a T-shirt, and everybody is laughing at me,” McWay said.

“This is the kind of classic winter storm that we haven’t seen too much of in recent years,” said Ed Clark, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

I haven’t checked Ed’s accuracy rate, but all I can say is. Bring It On!

It was snowing a few weeks ago and a lib parked next to me in a parking lot and as she got out of the car, I asked if she was enjoying all the global warming. She just gave me a dirty look. I said “Al Gore must be coming to town to scam us”. She didn’t say a word.

Oregon Coast has predictions for high winds, heavy rain, flooding, power outages, followed by below freezing arctic weather. It has just started to rain and blow.

Oh, and somebody has also predicted a large earthquake here for today.

I love to make irritating remarks to liberal stangers. You can spot them, too.

Once I made a good one to a lib women about her being alone with BJ Clinton for 10 minutes.

From Flopping Aces:

Historic Snow Fall in New Orleans: So Much for Global Warming

********************************EXCERPT******************************

“It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don’t buy into anthropogenic global warming.” - U.S Government Atmospheric Scientist Stanley B. Goldenberg of the Hurricane Research Division of NOAA.

Snow falls on the St. Charles Avenue streecar on December 11, 2008 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The last time it snowed in New Orleans was 2004, and the city has only experienced measurable amounts of snow 17 times since 1850.

More Than 650 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims
U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Minority Report
Dec. 11, 2008

The chorus of skeptical scientific voices grow louder in 2008 as a steady stream of peer-reviewed studies, analyses, real world data and inconvenient developments challenged the UN and former Vice President Al Gore’s claims that the “science is settled” and there is a “consensus.” On a range of issues, 2008 proved to be challenging for the promoters of man-made climate fears. Promoters of anthropogenic warming fears endured the following: Global temperatures failing to warm; Peer-reviwed studies predicting a continued lack of warming; a failed attempt to revive the discredited “Hockey Stick”; inconvenient developments and studies regarding CO2; the Sun; Clouds; Antarctica; the Arctic; Greenland; Mount Kilimanjaro; Hurricanes; Extreme Storms; Floods; Ocean Acidification; Polar Bears; lack of atmosphieric dust; the failure of oceans to warm and rise as predicted.

In addition, the following developments further secured 2008 as the year the “consensus” collapsed. Russian scientists “rejected the very idea that carbon dioxide may be responsible for global warming”. An American Physical Society editor conceded that a “considerable presence” of scientific skeptics exist. An International team of scientists countered the UN IPCC, declaring: “Nature, Not Human Activity, Rules the Climate”. India Issued a report challenging global warming fears. International Scientists demanded the UN IPCC “be called to account and cease its deceptive practices,” and a canvass of more than 51,000 Canadian scientists revealed 68% disagree that global warming science is “settled.”

“I am a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.” - Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.

“Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical. “The main basis of the claim that man’s release of greenhouse gases is the cause of the warming is based almost entirely upon climate models. We all know the frailty of models concerning the air-surface system” - Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology, and formerly of NASA, who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”

Warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” - UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist.

“The IPCC has actually become a closed circuit; it doesn’t listen to others. It doesn’t have open minds… I am really amazed that the Nobel Peace Prize has been given on scientifically incorrect conclusions by people who are not geologists,” - Indian geologist Dr. Arun D. Ahluwalia at Punjab University and a board member of the UN-supported International Year of the Planet.

“So far, real measurements give no ground for concern about a catastrophic future warming.” - Scientist Dr. Jarl R. Ahlbeck, a chemical engineer at Abo Akademi University in Finland, author of 200 scientific publications and former Greenpeace member.
