GOP nominee John McCain's campaign knew it was losing and was happy when it was over. President-elect Barack Obama's campaign wasn't prepared for Reverend Jeremiah Wright. McCain would likely want a "redo" on how he handled the economic crisis. And GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin may be the candidate of the future for the GOP.

The other day when I said something positive about Sarah Palin my liberal sister erupted and said “She’s a blithering idiot! She didn’t even know what the Vice President does”.
This is what lots of people really think so the attacks on her worked fairly well. If Sarah is interested I hope she spends the next 3 years cramming on international and domestic policy.
I believe she has another problem - the entrenched grifters of both parties don’t want their gravy trains upset and Sarah would be a threat to them. I think she’s run into this problem in Alaska.
Gee! I wish McCain would have figured out how big a loser he is about eight years ago. Did he realize that he was set up by the leftnut propaganda machine? They played him like a sap, using him to attack Bush and conservatives, and he reveled in every second the cameras were on him. Too bad Sarah didn’t have a better candidate to work with. She would have won, but nobody can drag a dead weight like McCain up hill.
The GOP lost the election when they nominated McCain.
Yup, they will continue to trash whomever they believe is a force in the GOP, while simultaneously trying to suppress any negativity or criticism of Odumbo.
Right, and Gov. Palin reenergized us to the point where we "rediscovered" our roots, it took a dear lady to stand for what's right in front of the demons of Hell to wake us up and demonstrate what true strength is and from Whom it comes.

I do not believe that they lost the “election”. I believe they gave it away.
She pushed the McCain ticket over 58% in our county (Westmoreland), a county carried by Mondale in the 1984 Reagan landslide and a county which has never elected a Republican to the state house . . . until this year.
McCain didn't even bother to campaign here. He wisely sent Sarah.
You can't explain the sea of blue in SW PA by racism either-- Lynn Swann won here in 2006.
McCain was a horrible candidate. Most of the convention lift that put him ahead of Obama was due to Palin, then he threw it all away with his showboating and overreaction to the financial crisis, and the ridiculous idea about postponing the first debate which he let hang for about 36 hours or more.
After that amateurism overreaction, he never regained the lead, even with the great lift Palin gave the campaign.
Love 'em both, but two girls? Forget it.
It is continuing daily in references from many sources. Letterman is on going in framing her negatively, as are others.
It is so unfair.”too many interviews”, “too much traveling”, “going to Florida for Governors convention”, forget that they requested her to speak “Too much time out of the state of Alaska”. “ Not doing her job”. “Having a designer handbag of great expense.” Designers freely give their clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. to people in the public eye with wide publication, etc.

She is not a Washington insider (thank You God!). She is genuine and a reformer, not afraid to take on the “big ole boys”. (Thank You God!)
Pray for her protection and her family's safety during these next years. The powers that be will do all they can to discredit her and damage her. IMO
I pray for Sarah to be true to her standards, and true to her faith, and loyal to the people of Alaska , and to love the United States of America, and be firm and steadfast to the Constitution.
I hope she doesn’t change a thing about herself.
Everything about her was authentic. She is without guile or artifice and an example of living your values no matter what hardships might come your way.
She never lashed out at the attackers. Her husband stood proudly by her side, never saying a word about the slurs and outright slander coming from the hatemongers.
McCain lost this election all by himself. He performed worse in the debates than Bob Dole did against Clinton. McCain couldn’t articulate any economic message at all. We were in the middle of an economic meltdown, and the Republican candidate couldn’t speak coherently about the economy. Instead he put us all to sleep with heroic tales of how he saved the American taxpayer from $3 million earmarks for museum projectors. When he was asked in a softball question to name the economic advisers he would surround himself with, the only name he could come up with was Meg Whitman. Now, Whitman is a smart lady, but she’s not exactly a Milton Friedman! McCain made no sense in those debates. He got a vote of no confidence from the American people.
Unfortunately most Americans couldn’t see through Obama’s rhetoric. I knew he was full of crap, as did most of the people here, but the average American bought it all, and McCain never called Obama out on his nonsensical economic plan.
Four days before the election, Palin gave an interview with Greta Van Susteren in which she was asked to give the reason for why people shouldn’t vote for Obama. She said:
I believe they are going to put this nation on a course that will erode the work ethic and the entrepreneurial spirit that has grown this country into the greatest country on earth. Because their idea of taking more from our families and more for government from our small businesses will kill job creation opportunities and it will kill that idea that you will be rewarded for your hard work ethic. Unfortunately that kills opportunity, too, for us to be generous and compassionate with our fellow Americans. The Democrats, it seems, on this ticket anyway, led by Barack Obama, seem to want government to mandate that we be generous and compassionate with one another via spreading the wealth. That is not the American way. We don’t need to go down that road. John McCain has a better idea that’s spreading opportunity by allowing our businesses to keep more of what they earn and produce so that they could hire more people, grow the economy that way, provide more for their employees...
Why couldn’t McCain articulate that message? And why in the world did his staff hide from the media the one person on the ticket who could articulate the message? I think the focus on Palin was in part due to a subconscious assumption that she was the voice of the ticket because she was the only one really making the case. But she wasn’t the one calling the shots. McCain was, and McCain failed.
McCain lost this election all on his own, and, pardon me for saying this, he deserved to lose. Unfortunately, the country does not deserve to suffer under Obama.
We deserved better.
That's one of the reasons why the MSM attacked Palin so hard. They were amazed to discover that she was actually running to win.
Your 100% right. Sarah wanted to win, John wanted to be nice nice with Obama, never wanted to bring up anything that might make the media accuse him of being “Racist.” Sarah busted her ass off for this campaign, a campaign she knew they would lose once McCain voted for that bailout but she still worked hard. Went to rallies at 6am, did 5 rallies per day, she must have been exhausted but she still worked hard. Meanwhile McCain wasn’t even trying to win, he was just sitting back waiting for this to end. What a jerk

I lost so much respect for him when he went on SNL the last time and appeared in a skit with Tina Fey that mocked his own running mate. Other FReepers thought I was taking it too seriously or reading too much into it. But I was gratified when Laura Ingraham agreed with my assessment of what a scumbag thing it was for McCain to do that.
The thing that I keep flashing back on is McCain's speech at the RNC when he thanked Republicans for trusting him with the nomination and he then said -- and he repeated it and stressed it -- "I will not let you down. I will not let you down." Well, John, you really, really let us down.
The only think we should feel grateful to him for is introducing us to this great conservative leader Sarah Palin.
The more I think about it, the more I feel that the GOP was OJ’d. They had Simpson dead to rights for a double homicide, but picked the 2 most incompetent lawyers to prosecute the case, and the most incompetent judge to hear the case. The outcome was rigged to get a “not guilty” verdict to avoid rioting. I think the GOP picked the most incompetent candidate to run against obama so that they’d lose, and we would get our first black president, and our sins would be washed away. It would have worked the same way if Hillary had been nominated, so the US could proudly proclaim we had elected our first female president, washing away the sin of sexism.
I’ll be willing to bet that this election was cooked from the very beginning, and McCain more than willingly played his part in the farse of an election.
Liberal women in liberal places didn’t like Sarah. SHOCKER!
Dole and McCain't will tie for the lead.
But look what "works" for the democrats...Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and Obama...
Both of them ran on "seniority", and that doesn't work anymore...neither does the "military hero" status
True. Just to add, what works for Democrats is running someone utterly unqualified but youthful, glib and eloquent, "slick" and "charismatic" "JFK" against an old or unappealing and often seemingly disinterested or listless Republican, every 16 years which brings in new "generation" of voters who don't know or remember the previous Democratic fiascoes.
And, with minor variations, Democrats run on "Hope" and "Change" because that's about the only thing they can run on and it appeals to younger generations who don't know any better and want to be the part of "changing the world".

Bob Dole missed the cycle but obviously fits the pattern. Both he and McCain were the media's "GOP darlings" before and after failed non-campaigns, and practically "selected" for GOP due to stupid "seniority" and media attention and favoritism.
McCain really had it in for GOP and conservatives ever since he lost nomination in 2000, if not before. To have a man like that as party presidential nominee was a cruel joke and a farce.
