Republican Sen. John McCain knows Rod Blagojevich, the legally challenged Democratic governor of Illinois.
Appearing on David Letterman's show tonight, now that his presidential campaign flopped and Katie Couric doesn't want to interview him anymore, the Arizona senator said he met the state chief executive soon after Blagojevich's 2002 election, in which he ran as an ardent proponent of reform and change in the way government is run in Springfield.
"He came to my office one time after he was elected governor at his request," McCain recounted. "And told me he was going to be a great reformer."
Is that right? an incredulous Letterman asked. (BTW, we have the complete interview transcript on the jump; just click on "Read more" below.)
"I'm not making it up," replied McCain. "That he wanted to do like I had done in the Senate and have all these reforms. (Pause) I really must have impressed the guy."
Letterman then asks McCain if Blagojevich is either stupid or nuts.
"I think a rare combination of both," McCain replies.

Even McCain’s insults of other politicians are crass self promotion.

I was going to say if ever there were an expert on stupid and nuts, it would be John McCain.

Way to quote the Democrat talking point McCain. Stupid or nuts? How about he's a product of the greedy and corrupt Chicago political machines, as is my former opponent.
Go away McCain.

The same people that elected Blago elected Obama, Daley, Jackson, et al. Who are the stupid nuts, really? That's the real question! And you know, where was the MSM? Whatever happened to the Woodward and Bersteins? No critical investigative reporting anymore, unless of course a Republican is involved. Even then, the MSM really no longer smokes out corruption as much as reports after the fact.
But seriously, Blogajovich appears to be pretty dirty. You mean to tell me that no MSM reporter knew anything about it? No investigative curiosity? None? Or was his Party affiliation a get-out-of-jail-free card?

The MSM knows its there at the Daley sufferance. Questioning the king's motives can get you banned at best.

Gov. Blago has been a disaster as governor, only through support from the Chicago machine is he able to get elected. Thos of us who live downstate of Chicago are alnernating between giddy happiness to seeing the corrupt SOB get his finally, and embarassment at how the whole fricking mess makes the entire state look.

I heard him last night, cause my wife likes Letterman...
What a douche bag. He said something about global warming and I told my wife that I was glad that a##wipe lost.
She said, " I thought you liked McCain?"...
I told her I just thought Obamalamadingdong was worse. doesn't matter anymore, they're all a bunch of thieves.
Now Bush wants to bail out the UAW and I get to pay union dues by paying my taxes. F'ing great... thanks Republicrats.
I'm just going to go on with my life with the proles and let the inner party members tell me what to do, what to think and who to hate.
this is double plus ungood.

"I'm not making it up," replied McCain. "That he wanted to do like I had done in the Senate and have all these reforms. (Pause) I really must have impressed the guy." McCain's crappy self-serving pseudo-reform efforts over the last decade drew flies from all political quarters.
Well, except from quarters that are principled and still adhere to the Constitution, that is.
