U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Phoenix) is opposed to the bill passed by the House Wednesday night, a McCain spokeswoman told PolitickerAZ.com Thursday.

"The senator is opposed to the bill as it is written," said Leah Geach of McCain's Washington, D.C. office. She said she didn't have any further details to offer at present.

AP is still reporting a “tentative agreement” has been reached and a vote is coming sometime tonight.

While he may be opposed to it, does he have the spine to vote against it?

He isn't for as it is written, but voted for the 700 billion dollar gift/fraud/scam. 14 billion is chump change compared to that.

"The senator is opposed to the bill as it is written,"

He wants to add an amnesty provision

So in other words, he consulted Sarah Palin and Joe the Plumber rather than going with his instincts?

he was for it before he was against it... who gives a sh#t. The best thing would be for the Senate and the Congress to STFU, go home, pretend that they're doing something and leave the taxpayers alone.

The dems have screwed this country up so bad that it is not even funny anymore. It used to be if you're trying to avoid feeding the unions, democrat corrupt political machine and high local taxes.. you moved to Texas or the South. Now that every part of the country the dem controls is a sh#t hole... they're coming after us.

gawd I wish that Texas was on it's own. There isn't one thing I'd really miss about New York, Cali or any other place. I could travel there but then come home and avoid all the silly stuff they do.

Now we're all going to bail out the UAW, Michigan and any other high tax, union supporting waste of money. I can't wait till Obama has the "BIg Dig" projects all over the country, pouring our money into corrupt union pockets and democrat hacks.... so they can look out for the "little people".

We all learn by our mistakes. By now, McCain knows his first bail-out vote was a huge mistake.

He opposes a $15B bailout for the auto industry yet supports or stands silent as the Fed, Treasury and various elements of Leviathan create $8 trillion out of thin air to dole out to the banksters and other fellow travelers.

I’m not in support of any taxpayer bailouts of private businesses - they’re unconstitutional, immoral and destructive to the health and welfare of almost every American - but I’d far rather give money to the automakers than to Wall Street. That being said, any automaker bailout is a complete disincentive for management and the unions to retool plants and contracts for the long term survival of the business.

Where is the leadership???

Rabs, it’s just McCain being a Maverick. /s

You stuck to your guns about this clown.

I soiled myself and voted for McLoser because I wanted Sarah Palin to have a shot at the White House in four years.

He does know the election is over right?
WHY couldn’t he have been against the BIG bailout? Sometimes I don’t know what to think of this guy. He’s right in this case though.

The key phrase in the statement is “as it is written”, suggesting that a tweak here and there would probably get his support.

Yea, SmarterBlondeThanYouThink, as in drop the number of lug nuts to 3 from 5 to save material costs, then hire three illegal aliens to tighten down each of the remaing 3...

Is this the McCain that babbled about vague plans for the federal government to pay for people’s homes for them? What changed? Did he finally realize that Paulson and Bernanke overplayed the whole “sky is falling” thing a couple months ago?

I predict that three quarters of Senate GOPers currently against the auto bailout right now will eventually support it - after a few superficial changes have been made, when they will say "we fought for your values - we did X, Y, Z and the bailout is that much better, just like we did for the bank bailouts!" They can play it both ways using such an approach.

This is all theater.
