U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Phoenix) is opposed to the bill passed by the House Wednesday night, a McCain spokeswoman told PolitickerAZ.com Thursday.
"The senator is opposed to the bill as it is written," said Leah Geach of McCain's Washington, D.C. office. She said she didn't have any further details to offer at present.

Good. Maybe during the campaign he got a small bit of conservatism in his blood. Could you call it the Palin influence?

How could McCain oppose this bailout, when he supported the other one? He’s never been a principled guy. I suppose this entirely demonstrates that.
Of course I’d rather he get it right this time than to get it wrong both times.

"The senator is opposed to the bill as it is written,"
Translation: He would support a socialist bill if it were written differently.

"The senator is opposed to the bill as it is written," said Leah Geach of McCain's Washington, D.C. office. That doesn't mean he is opposed to the bailout. - Tom

Thanks for pointing that out. I was really caught off guard and freaking out.

The key phrase in the statement is “as it is written”, suggesting that a tweak here and there would probably get his support. I don’t trust McCain on these bailouts.

Well look how well GWB helped McCains election on first bailout. McCain knows he took the coward's way out and joined everyone else on that vote (screwing house republicans), taking away all his reformer earmark talking points with it. GWB ruined any chances McCain had.
Republicans walked the plank for GWB on the first bailout,(not the first time they were setup) and way too late figured out he means them NO good. And Why would republicans who lost their seats after taking direction from GWB to join Obama/Pelosi on other bill for their last act, to vote for this? I hope they spit in Cheney's face when he came down to strong arm them, Goodbye GWB, you just HAD to strike again!
