[RECOMMEND- SEE Full 2 minute video at site. Powell tells future}

In an interview with CNN- General Colin Powell said of Gov. Sarah Palin:

"Gov. Palin, to some extent, pushed the party more to the right, and I think she had something of a polarizing effect when she talked about how small town values are good. Well, most of us don’t live in small towns. And I was raised in the South Bronx, and there’s nothing wrong with my value system from the South Bronx."

Offended urbanite Powell? How petty. I’m from Chi-ton. Cities do breed leftists. This needs to change. It won’t by making the GOP Diet Dem like you want.

He made the good point that Republicans must appeal more to minorities and those in large cities because that’s who the preponderance of voters are.

With all due respect, what do you suggest Republicans do to “appeal more to minorities and those in large cities”?
Just curious. Thanks.

This simile may not mean anything to anyone who's not a college football fan, but Colin Powell, having achieved most of his fame in the first Iraq war, seems to me like Charlie Weiss.

General Norman Schwartzkopf was his Brady Quinn, and General Binford Peay the Jeff Samardjia.

No one really realized how inept the first was, ‘till he tried to win without the other two.

What a weasel...does Powell really think that Juan would have garnered more votes without Sarah? Too bad he wasn’t asked about Prop 8...small town values + minority big city values = lib meltdown. It wasn’t the brand Mr. Powell, it was the 2008 spokesman.

Well god luck with that one since in the past 3 months they are almost sold out nationwide and backorder lists a mile long. He’s gonna have a lot of collecting to do if he goes after them and i suspect people aren’t going to give them up

Governor Palin is more of a man than Powell could ever dream to be.

I have always regarded Powell as primarily a poster-General.

You nailed it! That's exactly the reason I have never liked this guy. He rode his way to the top based upon political considerations, only. He did not attend any service academy....but appeared on the scene at the right time to take advantage of the national mood.

He was promoted continually over the heads of more competent and experienced officers.

Poster Boy! Yup! That's what he was. He can also add DUmmy to that description now.

I've been to malls up there and seen maybe 4 or 5 people I thought might have been born here.

Got news for you, NoVA ain't the only place like that. I went to the mall on a weekend just recently...first time in a good while. I was the only "local" face in the entire mall, clerks included. Also, I was one of only a handful of people speaking English.

Bit of a shocker, to me.

Why does this man even pretend to be a Republican? General, if you read this, please do the honorable thing and pubically change your party affiliation.

What I don’t get is are the GOP and some conservatives pushing Michael Steele? With Obama pushing gun control the last thing conservatives need is a gun-grabber running the RNC.

What little heritage he may have had left is down the drain.
Sarah is number on google search. BO is 7th and Powell is off the page.

If the founding principles that are good enough for me and my ancestors aren't good enough for minorities too, then to hell with them.

I may be on the losing side in this battle but dammit, I'm on the right side.

He made the good point that Republicans must appeal more to minorities and those in large cities because that’s who the preponderance of voters are.

There is no question that a true conservative outreach to residents of large cities would be helpful. They are so immersed in leftist ideas - from schools, union dominated governments, etc. that there are very few opportunities for people to learn conservative principles except for churches, or from families. In many cities the core conservatives are recent (legal) immigrants from countries that lack freedom. Russians, Chinese, Vietnamese, Cubans, etc.

Many African Americans and Hispanics actually hold a number of conservative beliefs - take note of how they voted on Prop. 8 in California. But those groups are relentlessly "organized" and targeted by well funded leftists. To counter that requires an equal dose of conservatively oriented activism in those communities.

Running some RINO/moderate candidate will never work. You can't out liberal a Democrat, and you lose the true urban conservatives. A real strong conservative candidate is what is needed - along with a sustained effort to educate people in urban areas.
