Republican National Committee Chairman Robert M. "Mike" Duncan has officially announced his bid for a second term and is willing to consider naming a general chairman to serve as the "face of the party," he told The Washington Times on Wednesday. Since the Bush White House backed his first election as chairman in January 2007, Mr. Duncan´s lack of dazzle as a public speaker and national spokesman has left him largely invisible as the face of the party. It is widely considered his only significant failing during his two-year term as national chairman.
"I would consider having a general chairman if the members are for it," Mr. Duncan, 51, told The Times in a phone interview. He said he "can be an accelerator of change" for the party and will have a 10-point plan that includes establishing a think tank to be called the Center for Republican Renewal. He said he also would create a "surrogates bureau" to ensure several high-profile Republicans are dispatched to deliver the party´s message and make appearances, at which his Democratic counterpart, Howard Dean, excels. Longtime voting members of the RNC consider Mr. Duncan the top candidate for what is widely seen as the No. 1 Republican post when, as will soon be the case, the party doesn't occupy the White House. "He has put a lot of members on various committees and he has taken care of a lot of people and at this juncture has more votes than anyone else," said Louisiana Republican Party Chairman Roger Villere.

You see... when the team is losing they start by firing the COACH... Get it?
This is why we are losing elections- we have stupid people in charge...
NO
Unfortunately, the coach wasn't in charge of recruiting the last player. Let's face it, McCain's brand of "conservatism" following the unpopular (justified or not) presidency of GWB is what cost us many elections.
There are times to go and when the person in charge loses at every level as the GOP did last month, it should be an easy decision. New leadership for the GOP is imperative!!!
GRRRR
Bingo! been losing since before 06, and we see how the repubbies have treated any conservatives foolish enough to try and deal with the party? Duncan, you stay, me, and a great many conservatives will be looking for a new party. Thanks, but no thanks.
Duncan? Apart from the fact that he presided over the most recent debacle, he’s basically an insider/party apparatchik.
As the party out of power, the GOP needs a loquacious spokesperson as party a head a la Haley Barbour from 1992-1996. I think Newt Gingrich fits that bill.
You got ideas? Great. You want to remain at the head of the RNC? No thanks! We need new blood! So long, and thanks for all the fish.
He had his chance to ‘accelerator of change’. He accelerated change - in the wrong direction.
Time to go, dude. You tried.... you failed. No Bailouts for you!!!
I see. Poor sod.
I’d agree with you regarding Gingrich. Duncan Hunter would be fun as well.
I wonder who Sarah’s preference is for this position...
I’ll go with that!
They are not conservative enough for me to support, although I do tend to favor most of their candidates (by default).

then why did we lose in 2006???
“It is widely considered his only significant failing during his two-year term as national chairman. “
Dude, get your head out of the sand.
Sometimes you have to go thru several coaches to get to that winning season. Just ask Jerry Jones.
