It's at a time like this that President Elect Hillary Clinton would really excel:

"I... don't remember."

Well said — also, I find it more than a bit odd that Valerie Jarrett’s name was prominently in the running for a week after the election, and THEN she announced she was withdrawing from consideration. Didn’t say it as though she had never been in contention, IIRC, but rather withdrew from the process.

This is speculation but I imagine that here had been discussions that week between Obama’s team and Blago’s team, with Valerie Jarrett as Obama’s preferred candidate. Then, when Obama’s people either refused to bid or did not bid high enough, VJ decided that it was better to take a spot in the White House. But if she had ALWAYS preferred to be a senior adviser to Obama in the WH, why not say that from the beginning?

Again, just my hunches, but I think there were discussions in the first week and then for whatever reason(s) VJ decided that Blago was being unreasonable etc.

OR, maybe Obama’s team got a tip-off about the wiretaps and decided to try to clean up the situation fast!!

Why would Valerie Jarrett withdraw entirely unless she thought she could not get the Senate seat and/or the process was too risky or costly, etc.

In a press conference today, President-elect Barack Obama said that he’s “absolutely certain” that no one in his campaign had anything to do with Gov. Blagojevich’s pay-for-play system. He reiterated that he had no contacts with Blagojevich, and said that his staff is compiling of its own contacts with the governor and his staff, information that he’ll release in the next few days.

“I won’t quote back some of the things that were said about me,” he joked. “This is a family program.” “I can’t presume to know what was in the mind of the governor. I can only read what was in the transcripts...and shake my head.”

“I think in Illinois as is true in American politics generally, there are two view of politics. ... [one] that goes in for public service and sacrifice, and another that says, ‘you’re wheeling and dealing and what’s in it for me. If, in fact, the various allegations end up proving to be true, this is ... the far end of the spectrum of that business mentality of politics. But there are more subtle examples of it that are within the lines of legality that still don’t fulfill the reality of service,” he said, citing lobbyists’ “disproportionate” power in Washington.

I HAD NO CONTACT with governor

Doesn’t it all depend on what the meaning of “contact” is?

Yet again pre-selected reporters questioned. He consults his notes before he calls on them.

Surely the media will comment on this as they did Talon News.

Oh wait, Soro$ won't take down his fence post turtle. "Media Matters raised the question of Talon News' legitimacy with respect to Gannon's loaded questions at White House press conferences..."

Obama says he is “confident” “no representatives: “had any part in any deals related to this seat.” “

Updated at 10:25 Chicago time with full Obama opening statement on Gov. Blagojevich....

One minute into his press conference in Chicago, President elect Barack Obama addressed the Gov. Blagojevich scandal, focusing on the main question, what communication, if any, did his staff have with Blagojevich over his replacement in the Senate. He said he was “confident” his team had none, and asked for an internal report he said he would make public.

“I am also aware of your interest in the matter of the Illinois Senate appointment,” Obama said at the opening of his press conference.

“Let me say that I was as appalled as anyone by the revelations earlier this week. I have never spoken with the Governor on this subject. And I am quite confident that no
representatives of mine would have had any part in any deals related to this seat. I think the materials released by the U.S. Attorney reflect that. I have asked my team to gather the facts of any contacts with the Governor’s staff about this vacancy so we can share them with you. And we will do that in the next few days.

“Finally, on this matter, let me say that this Senate seat does not belong to any politician to trade - it belongs to the people of Illinois, and they deserve the best possible representation. They also deserve to know that any vacancy will be filled in an appropriate way. I hope and expect that the leaders of the legislature will take
steps to ensure that this is so. “

maybe Obama’s team got a tip-off about the wiretaps and decided to try to clean up the situation fast!!

Obama gets briefings daily from people in the current administration.

Fitzgerald answers to one of them, and it's been speculated that Obama was given a heads up on the investigation so he could squirm out of the fray.

If she turns out to be identified as candidate #1, your post is spot on.

I refuse to either watch or listen to this choreographed charade. Fawning reporters and questions, all hand picked ahead of time. He will NEVER again take a chance on getting blindsided by a question, esp. after that “spread the wealth around” fiasco during the campaign. BTW, the only time I EVER hem and haw, stammer, or stutter, is when I’m asked a question and I’m trying to whitewash the answer—you know, a “does this make me look fat?” question. Ostammer, however, cannot speak directly and authoritatively because he is constantly monitoring himself. I’ve never heard him just actively express a full sentence. All those hems, haws, and unintelligible utterances are fillers. For those of us who tell the truth and don’t have to try to remember what we said before, his stammering is extremely annoying, along with the whistling s’s and the dropped words at end of sentences.

I have my problems with Bush, but he NEVER got a calm press conference like this....NEVER! They are all in cahoots....!

The Soviet People were aware that Pravda contained agitprop and lies from the Party. The American people are just waking up to this fact about the MSM carrying the DNC's water. Democrats have been in collusion with the press on a number of "scandals" reported in the past 4 years. It is orchestrated by the Party and Soros.

Tune then out as having any credibility. They are pushing liberal socialism and are as dishonest as the Soviet Union was.
