Chicago Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL) is the anonymous "Senate Candidate #5" whose emissaries Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich reportedly claimed offered up to a million dollars to name him to the U.S. Senate, federal law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. said today that the FBI wants to interview him as part of the investigation into Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, though he says he's been told he is not a target of the probe. Jesse Jackson Jr. D-Ill., second from right, after Blagojevich delivered his State of the State address to a joint session of the Illinois General Assembly in the House of Representatives at the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield, Ill. According to the FBI affidavit in the case, Blagojevich "stated he might be able to cut a deal with Senate Candidate 5 that provided ROD BLAGOJEVICH" with something "tangible up front."

Jackson Jr. said this morning he was contacted yesterday by federal prosecutors in Chicago who he said "asked me to come in and share with them my insights and thoughts about the selection process."

Jackson Jr. said "I don't know" when asked if he was Candidate #5, but said he was told "I am not a target of this investigation."

Governor pushed to pick Obama ‘s replacement - Senate resignation takes effect on Sunday
Chicago Tribune (IL) - Friday, November 14, 2008
Author: Rick Pearson and John McCormick, TRIBUNE REPORTERS
President-elect Barack Obama ‘s decision to step down from his U.S. Senate seat Sunday has ratcheted up the pressure on Gov. Rod Blagojevich to name a successor more quickly than planned , sources close to the governor said Thursday.

No decision is expected before the U.S. Senate begins its lame-duck session on Monday, sources familiar with the governor’s deliberations said. Blagojevich has only said he would name a successor before the end of the year, and his office declined comment Thursday.

“Obviously, it will speed things up,” said one source close to Blagojevich , who asked not to be identified because he was not authorized to speak about the selection process. “But this is about picking a U.S. senator. This will still be a very deliberative process.”

Obama , who is not close to Blagojevich , has said he intends to stay out of the discussion about a successor. Sen. Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.) said this week that he hopes to discuss a shortlist of his own with Blagojevich .

Offers a bribe worth millions to a man indicted for soliciting bribes and he’s not a target of the probe. He must think the world’s filled with stupid people.

I have queried Ms. Hunt on her source for the fact that Obama met with Blago. It will be interesting to see what her response will be.

Ms. Hunt is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and appears to be a rookie out of college (2006).

She was probably a happy little camper covering P/E Obama and his daily doings.

Now, I’m sure she is getting more attention than she really wants. It will be interesting how she handles it.

“asked me to come in and share with them my insights and thoughts about the selection process.”

I think that's the funniest thing I've read in days. Prosecutors often ask people to come in to share their insights....

You just can't make this stuff up!

No doubt, he got the money from Rev. Jesse Senior’s shakedowns and tax exempt free rides.

“I am not a target of this investigation.”

Wonder how long it will be before the Cubbie Nation realizes that Blago, Jesse Jr. and maybe even Obama were messing with their team for their own persoanl advantage.

I understood Cubbie fans could be a tad intense about their team.

I actually think it will come out that Obama had a hand in getting him busted. Blago is obviously a loose canon with a loose screw and I think Obama didn’t like the fact that Blago was trying to shake him down. This also has Rahm Emanuel written all over it.
