Chicago Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. (D-IL) is the anonymous "Senate Candidate #5" whose emissaries Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich reportedly claimed offered up to a million dollars to name him to the U.S. Senate, federal law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

According to the FBI affidavit in the case, Blagojevich "stated he might be able to cut a deal with Senate Candidate 5 that provided ROD BLAGOJEVICH" with something "tangible up front."

Jackson Jr. said this morning he was contacted yesterday by federal prosecutors in Chicago who he said "asked me to come in and share with them my insights and thoughts about the selection process."

Jackson Jr. said "I don't know" when asked if he was Candidate #5, but said he was told "I am not a target of this investigation."

From page #2 of the ABC link: "U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said 'there's no reference in the complaint to any conversations involving the president-elect or indicating that the president-elect was aware of it, and that's all I can say.'"

This was commented on in another thread yesterday, but there's a fair amount of parsing in this statement. No, there's no reference "in the complaint" about conversations that included Obama, but that doesn't mean Fitzgerald doesn't have that information yet off the table. It's the "and that's all I can say" remark that's most telling.

The rag newspaper in my area does not even have this as a headline. If it were a Republican it would be a full front page! The Messiah is in a mess and the paper ignores it.

This guy Fitz is walking down liberal hall, turning on the lights one at a time, exposing the corruption that serves as the fertilizer for future democrat power grabs.

Every chain has a "weakest link", and one of those links is going to break and release a mountain of information.

Now, I'm not saying obama is involved in this, not at all. I have no proof. I'm just saying that I will be very surprised if he isn't.

He comes from this "environment" of Chicago politics, the row IS over his recently vacated senate seat, among other things. He's already lied and said he hasn't talked to the Governor, when there is proof otherwise, and they both have ties to Tony Rezzo (sp?).

And now this connection to JJjr.
