CHICAGO, ILL. -- Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.
That's one of Obama's first priorities today.
He's meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.
Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.
There's already been speculation about his selection...from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago's south side who co-chaired Obama's presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.
It's likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take office in January.
Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.
KHQA's Alexis Hunt is speaking with Illinois Senator John Sullivan today about his thoughts on that replacement process, his time working with Obama in the state senate, and if there's a chance Sullivan might play a role in the Obama administration. Watch KHQA News at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. tonight to hear what he has to say.
Oh no not at all. I’m been know to be a bit snarky myself.
..
More on 0’s influence with the senate appointment ...

Gov. Blagojevich begins process of finding Obama’s replacement

“The process begins today. The thinking begins today. The search begins today,” Blagojevich said.
What the governor says he's looking for: someone who has many of the Democratic ideals he and Obama share, including expanding health care, creating jobs and cutting taxes for the working class. The governor said he hopes to make a decision by New Year's.
Whoever Blagojevich selects would fill the seat through the end of Obama’s term in 2010.
Obama is expected to offer advice on the pick. Top Obama aides have said they think it is important it be somebody who has a good chance of winning a statewide race in two years to ensure the seat stays in Democratic hands.
"The dealing seemed very close to a climax and an explosive political scandal. And then, on the morning of December 5, the Chicago Tribune ran a story on its front page reporting that law enforcement had secretly recorded Blagojevichs conversations as part of a criminal investigation. Blagojevich immediately instructed Fundraiser A to undo the plan to meet personally with the associate of Candidate Five. Blagojevich instead turned his energy to preparing his legal defense."

“Obviously, [we are] interested in whatever insights President-elect Obama might have with regard to his thoughts on the subject,” Blagojevich said.
Where are the missing tapes?!
Not that they have to ‘take-it’..
It would surely look like partisan posturing and damage the democrats even more (especially if the Repub refused ;))!
Ping!

osama is full of s**t. His aide Valerie Jarrett wants the job, and osama says he didn’t know anything. He’s lied his whole life and he’s still lyin’. He isn’t any different than the IL gov.
What did they talk about?
Well, I see they haven’t perfected the memory hole yet! At least one story made it through.
Oh, the tangled web we weave...
So now a big question is WHO leaked to the media about the wiretaps, leading to the Dec. 5 story in the Chicago Tribune?
That action effectively ended the investigation and removed the possibility of any new wiretap evidence (assuming Blago. is not completely crazy - we know he’s stooopid but surely after that Dec. 5 article he stopped blabbing about illegal activities on the phone).
Someone put an end to this investigation prematurely. WHO and WHY? The why seems to be obvious, in general, to prevent any more Chicago pols from getting ensnared.
Big, BIG bump to the top!

Definitely needs to be given some legs. Not enough to bring him down, but it throws a little more mud on His Immaculate Trousers.
Yep...the TRIB rides to the rescue of Obama...just like we suspected yesterday! BUSTED!! No doubt that the O team was informed of this coming story a few days or weeks before it hit the printing press though.
WHAT DID THE TRIBUNE KNOW AND WHEN DID THEY KNOW IT?
WHAT DID THE O TEAM KNOW AND WHEN DID THEY KNOW IT?
This should be moved to Breaking as well.
