[German Chancellor Angela] Merkel: No Sacrificing Jobs to Global Warming Farce
Right Wing News ^ | December 09, 2008 | Van Helsing

Posted on 12/09/2008 3:51:01 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Until recently, the USA's foot-dragging was about the only thing stopping the Western World from jumping off a cliff over the increasingly preposterous global warming hoax. But with the last grownups scheduled to leave Washington next month, Europeans have been forced to drop the sanctimonious posturing and defend sanity.

Chancellor Angela Merkel has been keen to promote herself as a tough actor on climate change, but with a new EU climate deal in the making, she's issued a new caveat: It must not jeopardize German jobs. Merkel used to exploit the hoax with the worst of them, even traveling to Greenland to pose with melting ice. But it's becoming clear that moonbattery has a price.

According to an unpublished report by the economy ministry, Germany risks losing more than 100,000 jobs if the EU were to force industries to pay for pollution rights that are currently free.

Another study by the Muenster-based EEFA research institute pointed to increased costs stemming from reforming pollution rights, making Germany's key industrial sector less competitive and threatening up to 300,000 jobs by 2020.

Infuriating environmentalists who couldn't care less about human suffering, Merkel now says of the impending EU climate deal,

It must not take decisions that would endanger jobs or investments in Germany.

Germans love Comrade Obama so much — maybe they would be interested in a trade.

Bwahaha. The snow melts, the poop appears. Out of all it's Merkel, who fancied herself "climate chancellor".

I remember the German Enviro-Minister Gabriel calling Bush a "neanderthal" for refusing to heed Kyoto. HYPOCRITES!

One of my 2009 predictions is that Germany will effectively withdraw from the EU.

The new fuhrer’s handlers will ensure the USA bows its collective economic neck to AGW.

That will be the least noticed and longest lasting evil he will do.

What a hyocrite. Too bad we really didn’t finish the job in WWII. Dresden was a good start. And that includes saying auf wiedersein to some of my distant relations.

That's why its a hoax! As long as its cost-free, every one is for reducing "global warming." When it threatens jobs and economic competitiveness, you stop hearing about it.

I love those very few occasions when the political mists part and the truth appears in full view. It happens so rarely.

Certainly not. The EU is Germany’s single most powerful instrument to play it’s power against Eastern Europe.

The title of this thread matches the title from the source blog. However, the source blog apparently played fast and loose with the facts. From the title one would conclude that Merkel had referred to global warming as a “farce”. There does not seem to be a direct quote to that effect in the article. Merkel merely states that German jobs and the German economy should not be put at risk in the name of global warming.

That’s a far cry from Merkel calling it a “farce”.

Did the Chancellor actually say 'farce'? Or maybe Posse?

Obama doesn't care if it costs a lot. A high cost to society is his goal.

We are screwed.

The Germans also spend heavily on renewable technologies. Proportionally they have spent about 5x as much as Obama proposes in his green technology plan and has created a tiny fraction of the jobs that Obama says will be created (proportionally).

I don’t mind doing something in a green way when it make sense. That means when cost effective, doesn’t do more harm than good and I am not forced to accept it.

I don't recall many warm days during my four years in Germany.

But that was 25 years ago, and the earth has warmed substantially during that time.

Um, that's what algore sez.

Now that I think about it, some global warming would have been welcome, particularly at a nude beach near Todendorf (on the Baltic Sea). The level of shrinkage was inversely related to the briskness of the winds off the Baltic.

This needs to be challenged every time it is asserted. CO2 is *not* a pollutant. It is a plant growth stimulator, therefore, if anything, it is Green!
