Postal Worker Stabbed While Delivering Mail in Rockville [Maryland; 3 p.m.]

A postal worker was in critical but stable condition today after being stabbed while delivering mail in Rockville, police said. Investigators do not have a motive for the attack.

Officers responding to a reported assault at Halpine Road and Alsace Lane shortly before 3 p.m. found the female letter carrier unconscious with serious stab wounds to the torso, Rockville Police Chief Terrance Treschuk said.

The 31-year-old woman was taken to Suburban Hospital. Treschuk said he did not know the victim's identity.

Her wallet was not taken, police said, and U.S. Postal Service inspectors were trying to determine whether mail was taken from her postal truck. Police are looking for a Hispanic male who was seen in the area at the time of the stabbing. He was wearing a black shirt and may have gotten into a green vehicle.

Police asked anyone with information about the incident to call 240-314-8938.

It’s a few blocks from Twinbrook Parkway. Just north of Fishers Lane (site of the humongous Health and Human Services Building.) If that doesn’t ring a bell, how about Parklawn Drive, same hood.
