Green-on-Green Violence (fighting over money)

The activist group Environmental Defense got a taste of what it used to dish out this week when its Washington, D.C., offices were invaded by another green group, the Global Justice Ecology Project.

The Global Justice Ecology Project (GJEP) essentially accused Environmental Defense (ED) of collaborating with the enemy -- big businesses that want cap-and-trade global warming legislation. Noting that her father was one of ED’s founders, GJEP head Rachel Smolker said she was now “ashamed” of ED because it advocated cap-and-trade. Smolker said that the European version of cap-and-trade, the Kyoto Protocol, had “utterly failed” to reduce emissions and served “only to provide huge profits for the world’s most polluting industries.”

“Instead of protecting the environment, ED now seems primarily concerned with protecting corporate bottom lines. I can hear my father rolling over in his grave,” Smolker said.

The GJEP activists who took over ED’s offices rearranged the furniture to illustrate how cap-and-trade is “like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic," and sported signs that read “Keep the cap, ditch the trade” and “Carbon trading is an environmental offense.” Related

While this column’s position is that global warming alarmism is the ultimate in junk science and that the proposed solutions to this non-problem amount to economic and social suicide, for those who believe in the need for global warming regulation, the GJEP activists do indeed have a point -- cap-and-trade is a charade.

They can’t burn the offices! They’re bunny-huggers! They need to shred the offices and then recycle the waste stream!

How about taking the strongest from each group, giving them a backpack full of supplies they'll need, dropping them off in, say, Alaska at the base of Denali and telling them that the first one who summits Denali and gets back to base camp gets the “green” money.

The “greenhouse effect” is just another flim-flam to steal taxpayers’ money.

The earth is a finite planet. One day, it will die, no matter what we do or don't do. Just like a newborn will die at old age (if Barry doesn't abort it), the human can “prolong” his life by eating well and not taking risks (what fun is there in that?) and exercising. But for how long? A few years? In earth time, maybe that's a few hundred years . . . but who does it matter to? Do you want to leave this earth to whoever ‘conquers’ the USofA? You say “it's for the children” but whose children? The USofA has a negative population growth.

You want to leave the world a “better place” (which is totally subjective, your ‘better’ may be someone else’s 'worse’) or you want to enjoy your life in the present while you're here? I say, take some risks, sky-dive, hang-glide, hot air balloon, hike to the top of Everest or K2, sail across the Atlantic Ocean. Have some happy memories to take with you . . . because I doubt that there's anyone, even a “greenie,” who says as his dying breath: “I wish I'd starting recycling when I was six years old.”

Life is called “the present” because it's a GIFT. Open your life and live it to the fullest.

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary.

How do they expect cap and trade or any other fairy tail to work with all the mammels on earth constantly exhaling CO2? Or are they actually working up a case for mass genocide in the name of ‘’greenness’’ or some other fairy tail?

Let's see now...Rachel Smolker....never bathes, washes clothing or uses deodorant because activities of that sort cause untold harm to the environment.

Am I getting warm?

I think using the word 'warm' to reference Rachel in any way is a stretch.
