Rice: Clinton will be 'terrific' secretary of state (Dry Heave Alert)
CNN ^ | December 7, 2008

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday that she believes Sen. Hillary Clinton will "do a great job" as secretary of state.

In an interview with CNN, Rice also addressed President-elect Barack Obama's victory, saying she believes Americans were "wise in wanting change."

Speaking to CNN's "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer," Rice said she has spoken with Clinton since Obama named the former first lady as his pick to be the nation's top diplomat.

"I talked with her and we're going to sit down, and I'm really looking forward to it. I've known her a long time and she is someone that I admire."

Though the two are from opposite political parties, Rice seemed to spare no praise for Clinton, who lost her battle for the Democratic presidential nomination to Obama.

"I've known her for a long time, ever since she brought her freshman daughter to Stanford, when I was provost at Stanford. I think she's going to be terrific," Rice told ABC's "This Week."

She added, "President-elect Obama has made his choice, and he's made a terrific choice. Hillary Clinton is somebody of intelligence, and she'll do a great job. She also has what's most important to being secretary of state, and that is that you love this country, and you represent it from a basis of faith in its values. And I know that she will do that.

"I've watched her — I watched her do it at the conference in Beijing on women. I know that she was someone who felt strongly about the Balkans and the need to stop that terrible killing there. So, from that point of view, she's going to be great."

Clinton has her hands full trying to be as incompetent as Rice has been. But I’m sure she’ll give it a go.

The “Condi for President” folks wised up long ago when it became clear what an ineffective squish Bush crony Rice (Harriet Miers at State) was.

While I agree the Condi for President types are hiding these days...sorry, McClintock never stood a chance in the recall election that replaced Davis.

Hillary isn’t so bad considering what Barack could have chosen.

We have to remember that this is the choice of Obama (the most liberal Senator).

She’s horrible, but not as bad as what could have been for a liberal.

Furthermore, many people hate Hillary, so she will be watched closely. If Obama had chosen an unknown male, the SOS position might not be scrutinized as much.

Every move Hillary makes will make news. That is a good thing.

Who really were these people we voted for?

I confess, with each day that passes I seem to know them less and less.

This just goes to show that in Washington, it’s nothing but an elite political class that scratches each other’s backs. A mutual admiration society.

Anybody that thinks these jokers “work for us” is delusional.

THIS from the woman many in the GOP hoped would run for President or were clamoring to have McLame tap as VP choice.

Another useless "Republican public servant" believing fairy tales about the Clintons.

Oh hell, I'll stick up for Condi.

Look, can you honestly say that what George Bush has done to the Republican Party has made it possible for a RINO like McCain to make a decent arguement for eight more years of Republican government? What motivation did people have to go out and vote for McCain? Not much, if you ask me.

The people wanted change. It's a natural thing in American politics. The Republican Party and the Conservative movement have run out of ideas and leadership. Rice was right to point this out, if only implicitly. Honest conservatives understand this. The Bush Administration became an advocate for a deeply corrupt "big government conservatism", and lost the mandate of Reagan.

All those regular folks who showed up at the Palin rallies were not hankering for More Bush. Rice is no fool. She understands this. McCain never got it. Which is why he lost. However, Palin got it in spades. She's one of the few who figured out that the Bush era was bankrupt and a huge waste of the conservative movement's time and money.

You can't fool the voters. This is what Rice was actually saying, and it hurts to acknowledge the truth. Eight years of the most out-of-control spending in the history of the U.S.? People on this board were screaming for Bush to get out the veto pen, at least once.

He never did. Bush was right about the War on Terror and as Condi said, Iraq, but he never measured up to Ronald Reagan. Period. Reagan was a conservative. Bush was not.

Best,

Chris

Condi Rice, as a public figure, has to be, well, diplomatic. My assessment would be more along the lines that this appointment doesn’t sweat much, and it has a great personality.

Okay, skip that last part. That’s not true.

Yet another piece of vindication for my belief that we need to vote out every GOP incumbent, starting with the 2010 primaries. I’ve long known that the current GOP was spineless and unable to govern even when they had the majority, but this election has really shown us a lot of true colors. No wonder we’re constantly losing ground to liberals; OUR OWN PARTY IS FULL OF THEM.

VOTE ‘EM OUT, ALL OF THEM!

Having now virtually endorsed Obama, that distinction is false.
