If the engine was dead, likelihood is that he had no controls or hydraulics. So no controls.

One would think that in such an extreme case, the pilot should have stayed with his aircraft Navy or Marine Air- you can bet he/she did a fantastic job minimizing damage even with milli seconds to react. They are the best.(sorry Air Force).

The pilot may have lost control of the jet, meaning something happened to the jet, not able to control.

One would think that in such an extreme case, the pilot should have stayed with his aircraft and attempted to divert it to a less populated area.Maybe the plane wasn't responding to the pilots input?

I bet they are. 3 of them very close by. Also a Chabad Center on the corner of Genesee & Governor. A hop, skip & a jump from the crash site.

Actually, dirt is just slightly older by about 6 billion years.... but it has no memory for music.

Griffith just made a good point. The plane was definitely out of it's flight path. They usually come in east to west over I15. There's no wind to speak of so they wouldn't be coming in from the opposite direction.
He/ she was trying to get back to base and took the shortest route. Almost made it, too.

So, I’m sure FAA’s on their way to Coronado to review the tapes and talk to the Air Traffic Controllers there. It’ll be interesting to hear exactly how the situation unfolded. Hubby used to work ATC out of Coronado (and on the Constellation) back in the 80’s.

would ATC be out of Coronado, or Miramar? I thought Miramar did their own ATC. But what do I know?
