The firearms massacres that have periodically caused shock and horror around the world have been dwarfed by the Mumbai shootings, in which a handful of gunmen left some 500 people killed or wounded.
For anybody who still believed in it, the Mumbai shootings exposed the myth of gun control. India had some of the strictest firearms laws in the world, going back to the Indian Arms Act of 1878, by which Britain had sought to prevent a recurrence of the Indian Mutiny.

“seeing some of the names listed there made me a little sad.”
Doesn’t make me sad one bit.....Just narrows down the list of movies I’ll watch, music I’ll listen to, and sports commentators/players/or teams I’ll watch.
Wow, someone else who read that book!
I thought the rest of the book was rather contrived, but the weapon shop philosophy was dead on.
Heinlein’s “Beyond This Horizon” articulates similar ideas, but is IMHO a much better book.
Had a similar situation with my wife when I took her to a range in Nevada. Since we were out in the country she was somewhat nervous about leaving her purse in the car. I don't know why she was concerned but I said not to worry. I am armed as well as everyone else on the range. No one will try any shenanigans if they have half a brain. Everyone will be very well mannered. She thought for a second and said sorry didn't think about it that way, now lets shoot.
Some of them made me sad because they were performers that I truly enjoyed and I can’t enjoy them anymore.
Ed Harris broke my heart. :(
Absolutely! lol We’ve been subtly conditioned not to think that way.
I’d said that I thought any teacher who wanted to carry should be allowed to do so. One of them said that was a bad idea because a kid wouldn’t have to bring a gun to school, they could grab a teacher’s gun. I asked him, “Has requiring teachers to be unarmed ever prevented a school shooting YET? Let’s stick with the plan that everyone has to huddle in a room and be shot at while waiting for people with the ability to shoot back to show up because that, and the ‘Gun-free Zone’ sign, is working out REALLY well so far, dontcha think?”
I think that’s when he turned the corner. ;D
I used to like him too.
Nice work!

Sorry, that’s a risk you have to take!
Sadly, cops lead the way in ADs.
It doesn’t take much....just a brief lapse of focus and BANG!
If I had to choose extremes, I’d prefer every felon and crazy to be armed than to have all of us legally disarmed.
Better to err on the side of a few having too much freedom than everyone having too little.
You'd think if so many people have pointed out the same things over so many thousands of years, and yes "thousands", then you'd think more people would figure this out.
Why, thank you! *blush* :D
If you don’t have it in a holster, never chamber a round.
Some people are just better off carrying a revolver. Obviously, he was one of them.
