The Missing Dirt On Arianna Huffington (Arianna: “The Dirt” Part I)

The Missing Dirt On Arianna Huffington

The New Yorker published its profile of Arianna Huffington. Though disappointingly far from the juicy takedown we hoped for, it does contain a few interesting nuggets. We learn, for example, that the Republican-divorcée-turned-internet-publisher bizarrely "hides" all three of her BlackBerrys in her bathroom at night, even though she lives only with a housekeeper and her two daughters. Her gay ex-husband Michael Huffington elaborates on how she knew of his interest in men before their marriage, saying, "in my Houston town house I sat down with her and told her that I had dated women and men so that she would be aware of it." And Huffington sounds downright proud of her lack of long-term friendships, saying, "I metabolize experiences fast." But there's so much missing, so much that should be in this 14-page story, starting first with how she runs the Huffington Post — would any male mogul be profiled at such length with so little said about how he runs his business? — and continuing through to juicer questions about her dating life and cultlike religious guru. A few specifics:

To fit in some of these topics, the New Yorker might have had to cut out the bits about Huffington's "considerable intelligence," her "seductive" charm and how she likes hiking, "yoga, meditation and prayer." But at least the magazine would have broken some significant new ground.

Don't worry about my daughter; she grew up to be a great American.

Congrats.

I was very proud of my daughter (22) when she called from University of Vermont on election night and said she was going to go outside and punch the Obamachevniks in the mouth.

Way to go mom! I feel you. I raised three hip, attractive adult children who all live in Los Angeles and are unashamed conservatives. Our home is open to musicians who are predictably lefties and I love listening to my kids school them on current events and conservative ideas. Kids get their core values from their parents and as their moms we have their attention for those ever important developmental years.

Dad here...my daughter’s politics is informed by her pro life poistion. Can’t take full credit for that.

As for her dislike of lefties, the curious thing about going to a very left wing college like UVM is that some kids come out very strong in their conservative convictions.

Huffington can “trend” toward younger guys all she likes. The question is: are younger guys trending towards her? Not bloody likely.
