The crush of illegal aliens has brought us a variety diseases. For the first time we have seen cases of Chagas disease a parasitic illness that is the leading cause of heart failure in Central and South America where as many as 18 million people are infected with this deadly sickness. Transmitted by insects, Chagas, which was unknown here ten years ago is now in 23 states.

The open borders crowd from George Bush down are responsible for bring this and other diseases into our lives, because “they do the jobs Americans won’t do.” What a pile of dung!

Tuberculosis is another disease we have to deal with unnecessarily. It is sometimes rampant in illegal alien communities. In a chicken processing plant in Georgia more than 200 illegal workers who cough and slobber over our food, tested positive for TB, a disease we had beaten until it was reintroduced into our nation by illegal aliens.

The Center for Disease Control tells us just fifteen minutes in the presence of a TB suffer will infect half of those nearby. This puts our children at great risk.

Tuberculosis attacks the weak which includes the illegal children who carry it from their homes to our schools and on to our homes through our children as they illegally attend our schools. During the course of a bout with Tuberculosis an infected person will transmit it to as many as 50 people.

Incredibly Illegal aliens have brought Leprosy to America. For the first time in 40 years we must deal with this killer disease, one we thought was beaten years ago. We have 7,000 lepers among us because of the open borders crowd.

Hearing illegals are here to do jobs Americans won’t do is little comfort when our children are unnecessarily facing these deadly diseases.

People in the eastern half of the country where the illegal problem is bad but not anywhere as bad as it is out west, can't really appreciate the problems these invaders cause. It's not just jobs and illegal voting. It's diseases we can't deal with.

As soon as I became aware of how large the illegal alien problem was in the USofA, I have been telling people that they needed to be quarantined like on Ellis Island. I’ve been saying that for over ten years. The reason . . . they bring in diseases we have not seen or have eradicated a hundred years ago. This article just proves that my fears were correct.

We have had illegal aliens here with TB already. And we’re a small community up in the mountains (but the chicken plants/farms hire illegals and bring them in for that purpose).

We’re gonna die, but let’s die ‘healthy’ in our sleep and not from some third world disease that we’ve either never seen or have eradicated. That’s not racist, that’s not politics, that’s for the health of our grandchildren, our children, ourselves and our elderly parents.

Build the doggone fence and ship ‘em out. And then quarantine those we decide to allow to stay here.

Those that want to give them amnesty should be required to take a half dozen or so home with them and feed and house them until their deportation hearings come up. Then we’ll see how they feel.

30 years ago I spent time doing an internship in the county hospital in Bakersfield which included a stint on the TB ward where patients who refused to comply with taking their medication were held under court order for being a danger to themselves and others. Half the patients were illegals and the other half were alcoholics. I understand the TB Unit no longer exists at Kern Medical Center. It was probably deemed too cruel to incarcerate folks for being a public health danger.

While living in Bakersfield my daughter had to have regular "lice checks" as part of her public school experience. She attended a school that had a huge monolingual population. We were constantly under fear because of the TB warnings. We placed the kids in private school until we could move away. There are illegal aliens here also but because of the high cost of living in Santa Barbara County the illegals are not as integrated in every aspect of living. You just need to avoid eating out and shopping at inexpensive chain stores. The solution is to start enforcing immigration laws but until then I just do my best to avoid the problems caused by these people.

Chagas’ disease is hard to spread in the US, thank God. The vectors don’t seem to work here. If global warming is real and the kissing bugs move north, we’re in trouble ;) A few cases by organ transplant; now blood and organs are tested.

If 50% of people spending 15 minutes with someone infected with TB become infected, I’d like to see that citation. I don’t believe it. If someone is infected, that doesn’t mean they have an active, transmissible case. Many people from the third world test positive for TB because they have been vaccinated for it, not because they are infected.

I do believe we should control our borders and do a much better job of keeping foreign diseases out. I’m a nurse and don’t want to come into contact with these disease agents - but articles in hysteric mode like this are not persuasive in getting us to do what needs to be done.

I was living in Glendale, California in the late 1990s, a town that is mostly Armenians and Hispanics. I lived in a building with a lot of immigrants and immigrant children in it... I caught that d@mned "whooping cough."

Kids supposedly got over the illness in two weeks. In adults, however, getting well took a lot longer. I was coughing my brains out (possibly hard enough to crack a rib; certainly hard enough to get pleurisy) for two months. I ended up in the ER three times.

One of the ER docs told me it was "viral whooping cough," even though whooping cough technically is a bacterial infection.

At any rate, I was sicker than a dog for quite a while. Lucky thing for me that I was working out of my home office, because I wouldn't have been able to hold down a job otherwise; and even so, I lost a lot of work time.

To become infected, a person usually has to spend a relatively long time in a closed environment where the air was contaminated by a person with untreated tuberculosis who was coughing and who had numerous M. tuberculosis organisms (or tubercle bacilli) in secretions from the lungs or larynx. Infection is generally transmitted through the air; therefore, there is virtually no danger of its being spread by dishes, linens, and other items that are touched, or by most food products. However, it can be transmitted through unpasteurized milk or milk products (e.g., some cheeses) obtained from infected cattle (1). Documented sites of XDR-TB include crowded hospitals, prisons, homeless shelters, and other settings where susceptible persons come in contact with infected persons with TB disease.

When a susceptible person inhales droplet nuclei containing the tubercle bacilli, TB transmission may occur. The probability that TB will be transmitted depends on the

* Infectiousness of the person with TB disease
* Environment in which exposure occurred
* Duration of exposure
* Virulence of the organism

We should keep illegals out of our country and diseases are only one of the reasons, but we shouldn't resort to lies, distortions and hysteria to do so.
