The continuing efforts of a fringe group of conservatives to deny Obama his victory and to lay the basis for the claim that he is not a legitimate president is embarrassing and destructive. The fact that these efforts are being led by Alan Keyes, an unhinged demagogue on the political fringe who lost a senate election to the then unknown Obama by 42 points should be a warning in itself.
This tempest over whether Obama, the child of an American citizen, was born on American soil is tantamount to the Democrats' seditious claim that Bush "stole" the election in Florida and hence was not the legitimate president. This delusion helped to create the Democrats' Bush derangement syndrome and encouraged Democratic leaders to lie about the origins of the Iraq War, and regard it as illegitimate as Bush himself. It became "Bush's War" rather than an American War with destructive consequences for our troops and our cause.
The Birth Certificate zealots are essentially arguing that 64 million voters should be disenfranchised because of a contested technicality as to whether Obama was born on U.S. soil. (McCain narrowly escaped the problem by being born in the Panama Canal zone, which is no longer American.)
What difference does it make to the future of this country whether Obama was born on US soil? Advocates of this destructive campaign will argue that the Constitutional principle regarding the qualifications for President trumps all others. But how viable will our Constitution be if 5 Supreme Court justices should decide to void 64 million ballots?
Conservatives are supposed to respect the organic nature of human societies. Ours has been riven by profound disagreements that have been deepening over many years. We are divided not only about political facts and social values, but also about what the Constitution itself means. The crusaders on this issue choose to ignore these problems and are proposing to deny the will of 64 million voters by appealing to 5 Supreme Court Justices (since no one is delusional enough to think that the 4 liberal justices are going to take the presidency away from Obama). What kind of conservatism is this?
It is not conservatism; it is sore loserism and quite radical in its intent. Respect for election results is one of the most durable bulwarks of our unity as a nation. Conservatives need to accept the fact that we lost the election, and get over it; and get on with the important business of reviving our country's economy and defending its citizens, and -- by the way -- its Constitution.
The framers wrote in “natural born” not just for then, but for such a time as this. I cannot believe SCOTUS would not defend the standard as it has applied to all previous Presidents.
You know we might not hear anything tomorrow, that would be good news. In this case no news is good news.
Fixed.
Did you need a real one, or do you think you could have gotten by with a forged one?
So now the Constitution is a "technicality"?
Oh, and McCain did not "escape" because he was born in the Canal Zone, he was, according to his original Birth Certificate, which was promptly released, born in Colon, Republic of Panama, which is not in the Zone. He is a natural born citizen because he was born of two US Citizen parents (Both natural born although that doesn't matter), who both met the residency requirements of the time.
plagiarize our stuff constantly 24/7(which they do)
Beg your pardon? Rush is plagiarizing you? Hope that's not what you meant.
So, IIRC, was Winston Churchill's.
A fair and reasoned argument, and I don’t fault anything you say, except for the fact that most of the conservative commentators who I have referenced have shown no fear of being labeled “kooks”.
That can’t be the reason for their silence.
And there also has also has to be a reason "The One" is spending so much on lawyers to keep the information on his BC out of the public domain.
What I’m saying is I won’t base a conclusion wholly on the opinions of others, no matter who they are.
If the opinion of prominent conservatives is that Donofrio’s case and those like his are invalid, such an opinion is in direct contradiction with evidence both from the text of the Constitution and as clearly seen in Obama’s behavior.
I trust the Constitution and its principles far more any man.
Let’s just stay with Rush on this. Do you think he cares about being called “nice” or “reasonable”.
There is no need for discussion or arguments about Natural born citizen. The constitution is clear, you have to be born here, in the US, or have been made a US citizen by the time the constitution was written(a criteria no one today can meet for obvious reasons), and to have lived in the US for 14 years in order to hold the office of President. There are laws that were written later to clarify status of people born outside of the US. There is also no confusion there either, the laws are clear.
The only confusion is in the minds of liberals and others who are too stupid to see how important this is to our rule of law. There is also confusion as to where Bozo was actually born and that is a big confusion and a definite unknown.
However, the biggest confusion is why hasn't Bozo cleared this up by the simple expedient of showing a valid copy of his vault BC and why he has spent 1 million dollars, so far, trying to get out of showing a valid copy. That is the real confusion, and it is even more confusing when you have hard line conservatives(up till this point at least)like Michell Malkin saying we should drop this.
Well, then, if the Supreme Court dismisses Donofrio, as they did...what then?
They can just say "cert denied", with no explanation. That will mean what it has always meant. That particular case stands where it was in the court from which appeal was made. But it says nothing about the merits of the case itself, nor does it prejudice any other cases on the same or similar topics.
“Lets just stay with Rush on this”
How can we “stay with Rush on this” if he doesn’t speak about it? What are we staying with?
No man can remove the principles.
The Vault copy does not have the footprints, in Hawaii at least. Why I don't know. Something is needed to tie a particular person to the piece of paper.
I agree.
obama has been elected. you may have questions and point out the “truth’ of his citizenship, but to turn over the election now and keep this drumbeat going is COUNTERPRODUCTIVE. so is Bush bashing by the conservatives now.
I guess its just too hard to work hard to educate as many people as possible, to make sure voter fraud is dealt with and to get a grass roots organization as effective as Obozo’s was. why do all that hard work that may bring conservatives back when you can just go off on this “unprovable to the extent americans will even accept the proof.’ tangent.
We can still uphold the constitution by demanding the NEXT time this has to be dealt with earlier.
