The continuing efforts of a fringe group of conservatives to deny Obama his victory and to lay the basis for the claim that he is not a legitimate president is embarrassing and destructive. The fact that these efforts are being led by Alan Keyes, an unhinged demagogue on the political fringe who lost a senate election to the then unknown Obama by 42 points should be a warning in itself.
This tempest over whether Obama, the child of an American citizen, was born on American soil is tantamount to the Democrats' seditious claim that Bush "stole" the election in Florida and hence was not the legitimate president. This delusion helped to create the Democrats' Bush derangement syndrome and encouraged Democratic leaders to lie about the origins of the Iraq War, and regard it as illegitimate as Bush himself. It became "Bush's War" rather than an American War with destructive consequences for our troops and our cause.
The Birth Certificate zealots are essentially arguing that 64 million voters should be disenfranchised because of a contested technicality as to whether Obama was born on U.S. soil. (McCain narrowly escaped the problem by being born in the Panama Canal zone, which is no longer American.)
What difference does it make to the future of this country whether Obama was born on US soil? Advocates of this destructive campaign will argue that the Constitutional principle regarding the qualifications for President trumps all others. But how viable will our Constitution be if 5 Supreme Court justices should decide to void 64 million ballots?
Conservatives are supposed to respect the organic nature of human societies. Ours has been riven by profound disagreements that have been deepening over many years. We are divided not only about political facts and social values, but also about what the Constitution itself means. The crusaders on this issue choose to ignore these problems and are proposing to deny the will of 64 million voters by appealing to 5 Supreme Court Justices (since no one is delusional enough to think that the 4 liberal justices are going to take the presidency away from Obama). What kind of conservatism is this?
It is not conservatism; it is sore loserism and quite radical in its intent. Respect for election results is one of the most durable bulwarks of our unity as a nation. Conservatives need to accept the fact that we lost the election, and get over it; and get on with the important business of reviving our country's economy and defending its citizens, and -- by the way -- its Constitution.
I heard. Even the insane can be right, not that Berg is insane.
The point is though, all these arguments should have been made *before* the election, not after. The election itself was a certification of Obama’s constitutional right to stand as president, and he has been certified. Overturning a not-close election on something that can never in fact be proven or disproven would pretty much destroy our democracy. Think about it.

“Conservatives are supposed to respect the organic nature of human societies. “
This statement sums up in one sentence how republicans are selling our country down the river. We play by the rules and don’t complain. But when the otjer side uses voter fraud, illegal campaign funds from overseas, and a person born in another country to run for POTUS. Our own side pulls this crap and wants us to just keep taking it.
Mr. Horowitz if you have been considered a conservative in the past. I do not consider you as one any longer.
But thanks for showing me your true colors in the heat of battle.
Yeah, we lost. Conservatives were going to loose either way. Loosing isn’t the issue. The validation of qualification, that is the issue.
David,
It’s not about perceived “technicalities” in the definition of citizenship.
It’s about lying to the nation, forging Government documents and trying to hoodwink the population with them, it’s about concealing vital information, it about outrageous arrogance and dishonesty and the abuse of power.
It got Nixon canned, the same should happen to 0bama
Cover. Look who one of the co-sponsors was - Obama. And the line he had inserted in the resolution:
"Whereas previous presidential candidates were born outside of the United States of America and were understood to be eligible to be President;"
You are right....this is a dead issue. There was plenty of time for this question to be answered during the campaign. And there is nothing worse than sore losers. I’m with Medved and others...and you hit it on the head with America “turned its back on bedrock American principles like individual sovereignty and accountability”. With open borders and a flood of people from socialist countries who don’t give a rat’s ass about the U.S. it is bound to get much worse so we might as well get use to it. Conservativism is dead if we can’t unite and do better than this....and we never will if the hand-out seekers and Kool-ade drinkers outnumber us.
Bye, David. It was nice knowing you.
Hillary Clinton is the FIRST elected official to plant this lie... she is the one on the Senate floor right after 9/11 with her New York newspaper asking "What did Bush know and when did he know it"?
The liberals were having their own food fight over which liberal would win the nomination. Berg filed this suit without one conservative having a clue there was any reason to question the Constitutional qualification. We have been watching a liberal side show but when it came right down to removing any doubt planted, Bama did not even show up for the show. I would like to know WHY? It is in his hands, he after all is about to become the leader of the 'free' world, how about he demonstrate he can do more than read from his prompter and produce something!!!!
Cool, that’s Three classic fallacies in one statement. The first is that those other conservatives are somehow the authorities on the constitution. Nope. Clarence Thomas, Supreme Court Justice, decided this is worth taking a look at and HE’s the authority, none of yer other boneheads. The second fallacy playing to the gallery, all those “credentialed conservatives”. The third fallacy is an argument from silence: “there’s gotta be a reason”.
Thank you for being so efficient in your usage of classic fallacies. It saves time.
When the voice of the people is silenced before, during and after the election--- heads need to roll. This issue should have and could have been addressed at any point, but at every turn has been slammed-shut. Fringe my foot; it is WE the people's constitutional right to be heard. And when that fails, the whole enchilida falls apart.
Thx for letting us know that you don’t care what the constituion states.

Have it bookmarked...thanks.
What does that mean, anyway? Sounds like BS (literally) to me.
Obama may be withholding his birth certificate for the sole purpose of driving some Conservatives crazy. The hysteria by some on the right is embarrassing.
