Changing the rules by folding old theories into new ones every 50 to 100 years or so is the ultimate cherry in cherry picking.

Make new discoveries and trash the old, one theory is obsolete but the new one is gold.

Nice substantitive argument...

Regarding the clause, “Congress shall pass no law respecting an establishment of religion...”

I would argue the following:

1. If indeed the intent of the Constitution was Federal Gov’t religious neutrality, doesn’t it follow that State gov’ts WITHIN the Federation should be subject to the same interpretation?

2. A nativity scene in a State building is essentially “respecting an establishment of one particular religion.” Consider that there are Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. who are State residents and taxpayers and they may object to the sanctification of the Nativity Scene by the State.

BTW, I welcome counter-arguments/discussions such as yours having substance...

The only difference between me and the usual conservative is that I concluded in 2002 that the likelyhood of any kind of God was zero. Allah, Vishnu, Jehovah, Ra, Odin, Ahura Mazda, and all the rest are creations of man’s imagination.

At one time we - mostly thanks to supernatural belief, earlier, and religion, later - thought the earth was the center of the universe and the Sun, planets and stars revolved around us.

We were wrong.

Science, unlike religion, allows for correction.

Never forget what the Catholic Church did to Galileo.

This is why belivers aren't welcome in the scientific community.

Because they don't buy into the magical mud theory? There is no God but life some how was able to sprout from some goo?

"Consider that there are Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. who are State residents and taxpayers and they may object to the sanctification of the Nativity Scene by the State."

Simple little question here...why are the people "representing" these fine believers not pushing to have the symbols of their beliefs placed in the square rather than trying to tear down one predominant belief? Seems to me that would be the logical and tolerant thing to do.

'Course commies really don't want fairness or logic or tolerance...what they really want is to eliminate everyone's rights to believe what they want to believe, including those you suggested....why?...because all religious organizations are a threat to dictators.

First they came for the Christians, the evilgelicas and then Romans C's where not far behind follow by all the rest...

I made a bad assumption; I assumed that most people were aware that homosexual defenders several years ago tried to state that homosexuality was common in lower animals. Therefore, they could claim that homosexuaity was not unnatural.

I am not advocating that we can be like the higher non-human primates. Although we don’t eat our young, sometimes, some people kill them for some very sick reasons that would cause a gorilla to wonder who was actually the more intelligent.

Can't disagree with that. Did you hear about the woman who killed her ex-husband this week and then slaughter his four month old daughter...just 'cause.

It made me sick.

Good point, but again in all fairness, perhaps the other people with other religions may feel that a Nativitiy Scene is the only one allowed in the State Gov’t bldg and perhaps feel intimidated to demand equal time.

I’m not suggesting oppressing a nativity scene on STATE gov’t property, but it really does have the appearance of an ENDORSEMENT by the STATE.

So a fair way to reconcile this would be to have a sign that says:

“This is not an endorsement by the State of a particular religion... Other religious holiday displays are allowed, please inquire within...”

And of course, there probably wouldn’t be any other displays having the pazazzz of a true Christmas display anyway.

This is my last response to you, I am not agreeing with those militant atheists who placed those displays in the Washington State Capitol Building. And I don’t think it should be done. I don’t know what I wrote that made you think that I did agree. The coming struggle with Islam will make you forget about atheists anyway.

“What a demented place - Seattle that is. What a bunch of hate filled creatures.”

Seattle is in King County.

In 1852 the County was named after William Rufus DeVane King.

In 1999, the King County council in Seattle “renamed”—or revised history in my opinion—King County after Martin Luther King and pasted profile silouettes of Dr. King on county stationary and vehicles.

It doesn't make any sense to me. The country was founded on freedom of religion or the freedom to not have a religion.

We started this country and created the rights we have because we didn't like religious dictators who killed our friends and neighbors and oppressed us for believing differently...not to eliminate religion but to keep one religion from being "the law in itself".

Get it people? Even if you’re a Christian, one would ideally think you would want our government to be neutral to religion. Posting a Nativity scene is not neutral by any stretch of the imagination

Christmas is a Federally recognized holiday. One can acknowledge it without endorsing it. What part of that do you not understand?

The only "magical dust" I can think of is from Genesis.

There is no God but life some how was able to sprout from some goo?

Goo? What "goo" are you talking about?

The Miller–Urey experiment?

That's science!

Well, I don't think they're militant. Just jerks.

I wouldn't have put the sign up, but that's me.

Ain't that the truth. lol. ;)
