Sentimental New York Democrats were rooting for Governor Paterson to appoint Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate seat his father once held. But Kennedys not interested. It was a heart-wrenching decision, and it occupied me throughout Thanksgiving with my family, with Teddy, he says. Its not a good time for me to move to Washington, because I have a large and young family. Theyre all in school. Thats expensivethough not as pricey as holding on to the seat. Against formidable opponents, most likely Peter King and possibly Rudy Giuliani, to defend the seat, Im assuming its going to cost $30 million, he says. That means $60 million in four years. Instead, Im urging my cousin Caroline to take it, because I think she would be fantastic, he says. I sent her a note; I havent heard back from her. Shell be a huge force in the Senate. Any other ideas? Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand, he suggests. What about his ex-brother-in-law, Andrew Cuomo? I would leave those considerations to Governor Paterson, Kennedy says.
No offense meant, really. I just found “Chelsea” and “eye candy” in the same sentence too rich to pass up. Apparently in lefty circles, Chelsea has “star power!”

One rule for Sarah Palin, another for Caroline Kennedy
MSNBC, the host Chris Matthews is in full gush mode, (”We all want to be the protector of Caroline Kennedy”), as are most of his guests. When I last suggested that many Americans regarded the Kennedys as their de-facto royal family, some of our more emotional readers howled that this was just a fantasy peddled by the left-wing media.
Well, dream on. The common consensus among New York politics observers is that, as the state enters probably some of the most difficult years in its history, the job is hers for the taking. New York likes its celebrity politicians - cf Mrs Clinton - but glossing over the lack of relevant experience on the Kennedy CV so soon after trashing Sarah Palin for the same weakness seems a mite like double standards.
Matthews has just conceded that the Kennedy thing is “almost like royalty”.

Kennedy for Senate?
Dec. 5: A Hardball panel talks about the possibility of Caroline Kennedy replacing Hillary Clinton in the Senate representing New York.
It’s hard to get rid of a cockroach infestation.
When he talks he sounds like he’s drowning slowly. I’m glad he’s staying home with the kiddees.
Now for Caroline. Holy JoeScarbrough, you know what this means? If she is half way competent and gets her sea legs she may very well be the Dem. nominee in 2016. Doesn’t make a difference if Obama wins or loses a second term, I don’t think an old Joe Biden would want the nomination. Caroline in 2016? Allah help us.
I believe that the special election would be for the remainder of the term. In this case expiring in 2012. An appointment is until a special election or at the latest the next state general election.
These people talk about the sacred trust and PRIVILEGE to be a high government official as if they were trading old 1970s baseball cards. How elitist and disgusting. This has nothing to do with representative democracy and all about ruling and overlording to selfishly and narcissitically get one’s psychological rocks off.
“Here here! Word is Kennedy wants his wife appointed when he steps down. Talk about unqualified!”
Two things. Fatboy won’t step down. Also,if Miss Vicki wants to fill Teddy’s seat she better bring the checkbook to Beacon Hill. The rats in the State House and some of the Congressional delegation are drooling to move up. It will cost her plenty if she wants it.
Geez, more little Kennedys to torment us...
Cuomo was dating Sandra Lee.
Sandra Lee from Food Network??? I thought she was married.
I had not heard.
It will be hard for King or Giuliani to defeat Caroline Kennedy Schlongberg in 2010.
“She was basically eye candy in her moms presidential campaign...”
Oh, barf. Is that the best they could come up with? :o)
Not really, Caroline is a pretty boring speaker and as we know personality wins elections.
“Im urging my cousin Caroline to take it, because I think she would be fantastic, he says. I sent her a note; I havent heard back from her. Shell be a huge force in the Senate.
Did the Governer ask Caroline Kennedy to take that Senate seat, or did her cousin RFK? There’s been talk that she was being considered, but who actually asked her to consider taking that seat? Did RFK just step over the Governo?
“She was basically eye candy in her moms presidential campaign”
EYE CANDY?????? What kind? Sour Lemon drops? She would knock a cur dog off a gut wagon!
I cannot believe a total non-entity like Caroline Kennedy could hold a US Senate seat. Let’s just hope 2010 is a very strong GOP year. We need one, and that would be a phenomenal pickup.
