Barbara Walters Looks for 'Fascinating' Flaws of Palin, Limbaugh By Colleen Raezler December 6, 2008 - 10:41 ET

ABC’s Barbara Walters showed the 13.2 million viewers who watched her Thursday, Dec. 4 “Ten Most Fascinating People” special that she can swallow pretty much anything but mainstream conservatism.

Walters gave cushy treatment to actors Will Smith, Frank Langella and Scientologist Tom Cruise, Olympian Michael Phelps, comedienne Tina Fey, embarrassingly photographed actress/singer Miley Cyrus, and pregnant "man" Thomas Beatie. She named liberal President-elect Barack Obama 2008’s most fascinating person (see Brent Baker's account), but went head to head against well-known conservative Rush Limbaugh, and ran repeated criticisms of former GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Walters asked Palin’s impersonator, Fey, to mock the Alaska Governor one more time, yet challenged Limbaugh to say something "nice" about Obama. Walters did not interview Palin but did air an embarrassing interview clip and a montage of pundits calling her a "drag" on the Republican presidential ticket.

At the end of her interview with Fey, Walters stated, "I want you to, as Sarah Palin, tell me how pleased you are with this wonderful interview that I did, okay?" Fey complied:

FEY as Palin: I think this interview went real good. I think this went better than a couple of the other ones that I did. (Winks.) (Laughs)

WALTERS: (Laughs.) I love you, Sarah Palin.

FEY as Palin: Thank you. I’m happy to be here.

Fey also told Walters her impersonation wasn’t "mean" because "we stuck to, a lot of times, things that she herself had said." Fey added, "There’s a very strange double standard because it’s a woman portraying another woman. The jokes we used to do about George W. Bush were that he was an idiot. No one ever would stop and say, like, ‘well, that seems kind of mean.’"

Walters failed to ask Fey what she thinks about the news media’s obsession with her unflattering impersonations of Palin.

In contrast to the treatment she gave Fey, Walters’s "heels were on and gloves off" for her interview with Limbaugh.

When Limbaugh claimed he was, "the most unthreatening, tolerant, lovable guy you could ever meet," Walters challenged him to say "something nice about the next president of the United States."

Walters attempted to paint Limbaugh as an elitist simply because he "came from a very good family" and "had money," a charge he quickly rejected. She also challenged him about a line he tossed out during the presidential primary that asked, "Does the country actually want to watch a woman get older before their eyes on a daily basis?" Then, as seen in the transcript below, she challenged his explanation of the comment:

WALTERS: I want to quote something you said. "Does the country actually want to watch a woman get older before their eyes on a daily basis?" You said this about Hillary Clinton.

RUSH LIMBAUGH: Yes.

WALTERS: You have watched me get older on a daily basis. Right. Sarah Palin, whom you love, is going to get older on a daily basis.

LIMBAUGH: Yes.

WALTERS: Men get older on a daily basis. What's with you, Rush?

LIMBAUGH :(Laughs) you know, the context...

WALTERS: (laughs) I never thought I’d be sitting here doing a number with you.

LIMBAUGH: The context of the statement was how unfair our culture is to aging women versus aging men.

WALTERS: You weren't fighting our battle.

LIMBAUGH: I was.

WALTERS: No.

LIMBAUGH: I meant it as a comment on our culture in a sympathetic way.

WALTERS: Okay. I will let that go.

On his show, Limbaugh found media treatment of another exchange with Walters fascinating.

Walters is a bimbo. Period.

The fact that she has risen amongst the MSM aptly demonstrates the complete lack of talent and accomplishment within that group.

I’ll take Palin anytime. Sharp, accomplished, and much more talented than the bimbo.

“WALTERS: You weren’t fighting our battle.

LIMBAUGH: I was.

WALTERS: No.”

My guess is, Walters has never heard the context. If she heard him say the words at all, it was probably in a soundbite. Limbaugh, on the other hand absolutely was there, and heard the context. Don’t you hate it when people put words in your mouth on the competence of their assumptions?

Look, I like listening to Rush. He makes some good points and he can be funny. But listening to him go on about attending WaWa’s dinner party for Thatcher, and yucking it up with this leftist ahole is too much. Let me give REAL Conservatives notice one more time. Don’t go on the Sunday Driveby shows, don’t sit down for interviews with the LameStreet Media (WaPO, NYT and assorted morons) and don’t go on with MSNBC and CNN........................TESE LEFTISTS WANT TO EMBARASS YOU, TO DESTROY YOU, TO DENIGRATE YOU, TO HUMILIATE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEM!!!!!

>>>The irony is that Sarah’s achievements dwarf Fey’s by light years, and I have no doubt that Sarah’s IQ is a few dozen points higher than the twit.
Yes, liberals attempt to veil their hatred and contempt through “parody”.

When Baba Wawa says “I love you, Sarah Palin” she’s really expressing her derision and contempt for her.<<<

Years ago in another life I was a reporter at The Frontiersman newspaper in Wasilla, AK. It’s disturbing but true. During that time, Sarah Palin was on the city council. She was sharp as a razor, witty, powerful, and, yes, drop-dead gorgeous. You’d look at her and think about Michael Jordan playing basketball in high school.

Those of us who know Palin personally respect her intellect and ability - even those who hate her, like Lyda Green, the Republican state senator from the Valley. Lyda’s hate stems in part from losing the competition for Queen Bee of the Mat-Su Valley. I’m betting that the hate from the left also stems from their understanding that they’re dealing with power and ability.

I would have found it amusing if Limbaugh had responded to the “say something nice about Obama” with:

“Barack Obama is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”

Since there are no flaws with Liberal and Demo-rats all she has to work with are flawed Republican’s and Conservatives.

But Rush knows that more people will be attracted to his show and the conservatve cause if he does the big drive-by media broadcasts.

I first thought of their Bush jokes as inane, childish, not funny, immature drivel, and plenty of other things so I never got to mean.

Loved Ackroyd’s portrayal of Nixon and Carvey’s Bush the Elder on SNL. Liked both Presidents but most of the stuff SNL did about them was funny and witty. Not like today where SNL tags all of their anti Bush manure with “ we're liberal and smarter than you so it's funny.”

HAHA awesome photo. I saw the interview with Rush. She was yelling at him, begging him to say something nasty about Sarah, and of course he wouldn’t. Barbara came across as a total nut case. I was waiting for her to start spewing pea soup out of her mouth and spinning her head around. Barbara Walters should know better then anyone what it feels like to be made fun of, during her first few years at NBC, she was mocked constantly by the press, and by SNL, she hated it when Gilda Radler made jokes about her, she was disgusted by it, but hey, a long as its a Republican doing it, who the hell cares right Babs. She is SO jealous of Sarah, it’s BEYOND obvious, especially when she told Tina, “You tell me in Sarah’s voice, that you think I’m a great interviewer” awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Babs, are you desperate for some Palin love, poor baby, you won’t be getting any. She couldn’t get the real thing so she settled for a cheap imitation. Pretty pathetic Babs, but what do I expect from a woman who outed her lover in a cheap attempt to make money off of it. Barbara is the true definition of a whore

I agree. Sarah was a great basketball player but she is no Jordan, there is only ONE MJ. Heck people don’t even want to use my man Kobe Bryant in the same breath as MJ

I guess the mods did not like it.

Oh well, hard to portray screwing your way to the top as well as being politically correct in the process on a family forum.

The same kind of attack about Sarah’s intelligence is now ongoing - I recently saw it in “Doonesbury,” in which she supposedly states that he favorite city was France.
Dunesbury made fun of Reagan's Alzheimer's disease. It was so far off the wall that it took me a long time to realize that that is what Trudeau was doing. When it hit me, I wrote off Dunesbury permanently.

Only a liberal or a masochist reads Dunesbury.

How can Lou Walters’ daughter criticize any other womanon the planet, when she herself is such a flawed human being?

For starters, her wealthy mobbed-up Dad should have and could have gotten her speech and elocution therapy early on, so she wouldn’t have those annoying speech impediments.

there are no flaws with Liberal and Demo-rats

How about a top-10 flaws liberals will confess to:

1. "I care too much."
2. "We didn't do enough."
3. "We let Republicans off too easy."
4. "I've been too conciliatory."
5. add yours

For goodness sake folks, stop obsessing, just stop watching. You won't regret it. Believe me.
