Chicago
IN the recently concluded presidential race, I was unwillingly thrust upon the stage and asked to play a role in a profoundly dishonest drama. I refused, and heres why.
Unable to challenge the content of Barack Obamas campaign, his opponents invented a narrative about a young politician who emerged from nowhere, a man of charm, intelligence and skill, but with an exotic background and a strange name. The refrain was a question: What do we really know about this man?
Secondary characters in the narrative included an African-American preacher with a fiery style, a Palestinian scholar and an unrepentant domestic terrorist. Linking the candidate with these supposedly shadowy characters, and ferreting out every imagined secret tie and dark affiliation, became big news.
I was cast in the unrepentant terrorist role; I felt at times like the enemy projected onto a large screen in the Two Minutes Hate scene from George Orwells 1984, when the faithful gathered in a frenzy of fear and loathing.
With the mainstream news media and the blogosphere caught in the pre-election excitement, I saw no viable path to a rational discussion. Rather than step clumsily into the sound-bite culture, I turned away whenever the microphones were thrust into my face. I sat it out.
Now that the election is over, I want to say as plainly as I can that the character invented to serve this drama wasnt me, not even close. Here are the facts:

Hey Bill:
Find the nearest fire stairwell and fling yourself down it.
“I never killed or injured anyone.”
Maybe not with his own hands.
What is the difference between Ayers and the Mumbai gunmen?
Ayers doesn’t speak Urdu.
No mention of the people his friends killed, no mention of the fundraiser in his home for Obama
Again, the NYT shows its bias.
Remember when it rejected an editorial by McCain?
NYT REJECTS MCCAIN’S EDITORIAL; SHOULD ‘MIRROR’ OBAMA
Mon Jul 21 2008 12:00:25 ET (Drudge Report)
An editorial written by Republican presidential hopeful McCain has been rejected by the NEW YORK TIMES — less than a week after the paper published an essay written by Obama, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
Bill Ayers has built a lie up in his mind that makes him innocent of killing his girlfriend and his boyfriend (Bill goes both ways eh).
He designed the bomb. The design was faulty.
His only real solution to his dilemma is self-immolation.
Someday there'll be some sort of incident at the NYT and they'll want someone put on trial.
I want to be on the jury.
Bill Ayres is a lying communist killer. Just the kind of guy who gets tenure at today’s top American universities.
"Technically neither did Charlie Manson."
I don't think there's any evidence Hitler actually lit any ovens or popped open any zyklon-b cannisters either.
Hmmm...Education position is still open... are we clearing the path for Bill, NYT?
“I was cast in the unrepentant terrorist role...”
B.S.! Ayers IS unrepentant. Ayers quoted in the NEW YORK TIMES on SEPTEMBER 11, 2001:
“I don’t regret setting bombs,’’ Bill Ayers said. ‘’I feel we didn’t do enough.”

(Apparently the NYT can’t even check it’s own archives...)
If I saw the guy in public it would be very difficult not to beat the hell out of him, out of honor of my father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Each of them served in wars. My father in Vietnam, My grandfather in WWII, and my great grandfather in WWI.
Anti-American scum like Ayers make me reflexively violent, because they are against everything for which my fathers and many other brave American soldiers sacrificed.
He is guilty as sin, and free as a bird. What a country!
This article is nothing if not a “dishonest narrative.” His argument that blowing off bombs in the Pentagon and the Capitol was not meant to create terror is laughable. His claim that no one was injured is not laughable though, but rather psychotically delusional.
The NY Times has sunken to a new low by allowing this Domestic Terrorist a forum for creating false fables. The editorial sinking mirrors the recent stock price. Stockholders must be close to throwing Pinch overboard in an effort to salvage a modicum of credibility.
Your earrings are darling Bill - do you have a matching necklace?
Neither did Charles Manson.
