LOWELL P. WEICKER JR., of Connecticut, born in Paris, was told he was eligible for the Oval Office. GEORGE ROMNEY, born in Mexico, ran for the presidency in 1968. BARRY GOLDWATER was born in the Arizona territory in 1909, before it became a state. CHESTER A. ARTHUR was born in Vermont, but rumors suggested it was Canada.

Weicker’s parents = both Americans.

Romney’s parents = both Americans.

Goldwater’s parents = both Americans.

Arthur’s parents = both Americans (although Arthur’s father was born in Ireland and there is a dispute as to whether he actually was a naturalized American at the time of Chester’s birth).

Obama’s parents = one American and one British subject. Later one Indonesian adoptive father.

From that article.....

"“He was posted there on orders from the United States government,” Mr. Graham said of Mr. McCain’s father. “If that becomes a problem, we need to tell every military family that your kid can’t be president if they take an overseas assignment.”

I suppose if one thinks about it, an argument could be made that the Founding Fathers seriously did not want Americans (even of military families) being born in other countries.
