From noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Denver residents are invited to sell their firearms - working or not - for $50 each at the "Anti-violence and Gun Buy Back Rally" in front of the Martin Luther King Jr. statue in City Park.
Sponsors, including Denver officials and community organizers, hope to raise $5,000 to $10,000 to buy the guns.
Activist and organizer Alvertis Simmons said he and others organized the event after the September shooting death of popular hot dog vendor Quincy Henderson in Curtis Park.
Henderson was known by customers and friends as the "hot dog dude" who sold dogs and chili in Five Points.
Simmons said he met Henderson's family after the deadly gunfire and was moved to actio

Events like the one here will produce few working hand guns, since the black market for such guns is almost the same as the price of a new gun (often over $300). It's a nice gesture, but it won't accomplish much.
Someone should inform these organizers that it was MURDEROUS INTENT that killed Mr. Henderson, and you can’t turn that in for $50.
Oh good! Now only the criminals will have guns. People did the same thing in Washington DC when I was there, and criminals sold junk, non-working guns to an organization like this and went out and used the money for drugs and working weapons. When are these people going to learn?! Stop with the feel good garbage and do what's difficult - put criminals behind bars!
Are these people fallowing the law while buying. Are they doing proper paperwork and all the stuff they accuse the Gun Shows of doing?

I hope they make sure and do background checks on the people “buying back” the guns because I’m sure there will be more than 25 guns for sale and more than 3 people, which might make it a “gun show”** in Colorado which means every transaction, including guns sold to an organization, will need to have a background check done on the buyer before the firearm is transferred. Who’s the buyer?

(3) “Gun show” means the entire premises provided for an event or function, including but not limited to parking areas for the event or function, that is sponsored to facilitate, in whole or in part, the purchase, sale, offer for sale, or collection of firearms at which:
(a) twenty-five or more firearms are offered or exhibited for sale, transfer, or exchange; or
(b) not less than three gun show vendors exhibit, sell, offer for sale, transfer, or exchange firearms.
I read about a gun buyback program years ago and it turned out the cops were dirty and were selling the guns back to people out on the street!
What will be done with the murderers?

Obama is going to be there?
LOL
What a royal joke!
I wouldn't give these clowns my guns if they paid me thousands of dollars!

Oh thank goodness for this incredible foresight! Give me a break! I am very sorry for the Henderson families loss but this is a token act and a publicity stunt. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few donkey faced politicians attend for a photo op. I will not be shopping at King Soopers if they actually support this function. When these guns are taken off the streets to "protect" citizens will background checks be done to match the owner of the gun to the seller? HELL NO!!!!

What will you do if you get a COLT SAA worth $3,000.00 or more dollars?
Or a WINCHESTER 1886 or model 94 worth several thousand dollars?? Thanks, R & R

I'll be there, and I'll be pleased to pay $100 - $200 cash for any functional, excellent condition Sig Sauer, S&W M&P, or Springfield Arms XDM pistols. Double your money over what these guys will pay.

Sell your worthless guns but do not give a dime to these so called community organizers. They are frauds and yet always get free press, even after all the years of theft and corruption.
And the RMN is still scratching its head about why advertising revenues are down.

Maybe we should host a french-fry or cigarette buy-back rally. Hey, I know, let's buy back all the knives, too. And cars. Yeah, that's it. Cars kill people. My favorite recently seen bumper sticker: "Guns kill people like spoons make people fat." People who use guns irresponsibly or illegally sure aren't going to be the ones selling their guns at this rally. Get real.

What do they plan on doing w/ all these weapons? Where can I buy one? It doesn't work if all they do is pawn them off.
So, how about this? Sell them to licensed/responsible gun owners for a small profit. Then use the funds to help after school/education programs.

And a dream it is, it sure won't work. And if law enforcement isn't there to see how many felons are in possession of weapons they're not enforcing the laws, as with the laws on background checks. Most weapons are bought by felons as straw buys, not breaking into homes. The state of colorado needs to make the penalties stiffer for gun crimes, our neighbor state has a law that says a gun crime is automatic 45 years, now that is something they will think about. A kid recently got shot because of an X-box theft, that's how smart these criminals are. The recent run on gun buys since the election tells you more honest citizens have them and will protect themselves. Some states allow you to carry concealed into public schools, there are some smart politicians out there who know a nut will take that into consideration if they decide to go in and imitate columbine.

Unconstrained vision of how things should be on the part of this group. I personally will go with a more constrained vision and accept the reality. This event reminds me of how Chamberlain was fooled by an ever increasing threat in Hitler. I fear this Country is heading towards that type of liberal thinking....

I am also going to not shop at King Sooper if they sponsor this.
I hope someone will follow up with the gun show law to disrupt this charade.
In the past, what has happened, is alot of guns that were used for parts are brought in and sold. Not many guns that would have ever been used in crime show up.
Most likely Diane DeGette will be there for picture taking.

And just how many criminals and thugs are going to "sell" their guns? Their gun is their only means of support. Killing and robbing is their means of survival. Would someone pleeessse wake up out there and use just an ounce of common sense?

They have a gun show this weekend too, now that place will be much more busy than this joke of an event.
I think I just found a tag line.
“Guns kill people like spoons make people fat.”
lol
This “buy-back” crap is insanity. Will the real criminals actually turn in their guns?
Constitution-abiding citizens must arm to prepare themselves for what’s coming. Since Hussein was elected, not only have I not sold any guns, I have done the following:
1. Began buying large amounts of ammo every paycheck
2. Started actively looking for PRIVATE parties from which to buy guns on my list, which starts with an EAA Witness .45ACP with .22 swap slide, and ends with a full-kit AR-15
3. Started firearms training for my whole family
4. Joined the NRA.
Viva the 2nd Amendment!
Colorado has a MAKE MY DAY law that allows you to shoot someone threatening your life or your property.
What kind of loons would turn in their firearms?
