A group of Washington residents have filed a lawsuit with the state Supreme Court asking the state's votes for President-Elect Barack Obama be set aside.
James E. Broe, of King County, and 12 others claim Obama never established that he is a natural-born American citizen as required by the Constitution, and that Obama ran under a false name.
A similar suit before the election was dismissed in King County.
Obama is set to receive the state's 11 electoral votes when the Electoral College delegates meet in Olympia on Dec. 15.
Similar lawsuits have been filed in other states.
Dave Ammons, spokesman for Secretary of State Sam Reed's office, said in an e-mail to the Herald that the state's position is that Reed is not required and does not have the authority to investigate the qualifications of candidates for president and vice president.

Reed is not required and does not have the authority to investigate the qualifications of candidates for president and vice president. This may or may not be true. I can't address the law. If it is true, then it begs the question - who IS charged with verifying this? It's quickly becoming clear that even if Barry Soetoro is an American citizen by birth, this issue needs to be cleared up in case it ever is a real issue down the road.
One would think a Constitutional scholar would have every interest in being the pivotal player in resolving such an important issue. We're waiting, Mr. President Elect.

That seems to be the standard. It's not my job and you don't have standing. The vetting of candidates is apparently conducted by magical elves.

The patriotism of these people is deserving of a BIG time pat on the back! Bummer how there are so few. “12 others”? This makes it look like a few “nut case/anti-BO” folks that shouldn’t be paid attention to. In actuality, it seems that 99% of the “sheeple” in this country don’t know about the Constitutional requirements to be POTUS and/or don’t care.

Interestingly, the National Committees of each party AND the Council for Presidential Debates both claim to confirm the candidates for eligibility. It would be interesting to see how they reached their conclusions.

I hope my fellow FReepers, Conservatives and anyone with an interest in preserving the Constitution of the United States will take note of the deafening silence coming from the GOP.

When the Constitution was written we didn't have sneaky people who could cover up their past running for President
They never got that far
In other words up till now anyone elected president had an easily verifiable life. A public life

I was listening to Hannity discuss this yesterday. He did not even want to touch it. He danced around and talked about how he had been watching the issue, but had not mentioned it on air. Then he say’s that he will take Obama and his families word on where he was born!!!!!!!
What an idiot! Was he here during the election?
DemocRATs lie, that is their standard mode of operation. Say anything to get elected.
I’ve never listened much to Hannity, and after that idiotic statement I will not be in the future either.

Obama said he was a constitutional law professor (a lie), but he has been quiet about this.

If it is true, then it begs the question - who IS charged with verifying this? Short answer? Nobody. And I'd agree that it'd be nice if there was. But I don't see the Democratic Congress doing anything about it soon.

Read your threads - - you’re very invested in knocking this story down - - why?

I have noticed the silence from the GOP for some time! It stands to reason when Senator McCain also does not meet the Constitutional requirements to hold the Office of President!
To: cripplecreek
Sooner or later Conservatives have to realize that the national GOP only tolerates them when it is convenient for them to do so.
