Eliot Spitzer, former governor of New York, has a new calling: online commentator.
At 5:59 p.m., Slate, the online magazine, published the first of what it says will be a series of biweekly columns by Mr. Spitzer on financial matters. Mr. Spitzers first column argues against using bailouts to prop up giant financial conglomerates, asserting that the money could be better spent elsewhere, whether its supporting basic research and development that could give us true competitive advantage or restructuring our bloated health care sector.
The flaw in consolidation, Mr. Spitzer writes, is that it has created mega-banks that are deemed too big to fail. Imagine if instead of merging more and more banks together, we had broken them apart and forced them to compete in a genuine manner, he writes.
We asked him to write for us, Jacob Weisberg, editor in chief of the Slate Group, which includes the online publications Slate, Root and The Big Money and is a unit of The Washington Post Company, said in a phone interview. We first approached him a couple of months ago. I had the idea a while back that he would be an interesting person to write about the financial crisis, in particular.
The news of Mr. Spitzers new job was reported this afternoon by The New York Observer.
David Plotz, the editor of Slate, signed off on the idea, Mr. Weisberg added.
As for the quality of Mr. Spitzers prose, Mr. Weisberg said, Hes a natural writer, which is, I have to say, among ex-politicians something youre not expecting to find.

LOL
Good luck with that Spitz.
One wonders if he will discuss how to pay for a prostitute or how to financially avoid criminal prosecution.
Spitzer Gets a New Job, as an Online Comunist.
There, fixed it.
Spitzer should stick to what he knows
Great. Financial matters...like how to trigger anti-money laundering alarms at the bank that result in getting caught with a high-priced Jersey call girl.
Plotz? Seriously?
I wonder how many back door shenanigans went on behind the scenes to hook up the Spitz.
How many hos does I get for a dollar?
He’s a steamroller, baby . . .
My wife of 20 years doesn't know that I like to cheat on her with cheap prostitootsies.
Does that make me a bad Lieutenant Governor?
Sign me,
'Dave'
then Spitz.
