CNN: Layoffs in the Enviro Unit; O'Brien Out (Dinosaur Media DeathWatchâ„¢)
Newsday ^ | December 3, 2008 | Staff

This can't be good: I am told that CNN has eliminated its science unit, affecting seven staffers. It's not good for many reasons but the network's science unit is one of the best in television and probably has a few dozen Emmys to prove it. Here's a statement from CNN: " We want to integrate environmental, science and technology reporting into the general editorial structure rather than have a stand alone unit. Now that the bulk of our environmental coverage is being offered through the 'Planet in Peril' franchise which is produced by the 'AC360' program, there is no need for a separate unit." Veteran anchor Miles O'Brien is affected in this shift too; TVnewser just reported that he was ousted too. As viewers know, CNN's taken a deep, long interest in science (space-related stuff, it seems to me, in particular) going back to the earliest days, when John Holliman - one of the "Boys of Baghdad" - was the network's space reporter. So this strikes at the culture and history of the place.

WOW!!! This whole thread makes me feel warm and fuzzy!! What will all these TV anchors and lousy MSM do to find a new job?! Who will hire such loathsome creatures????

What are some suggested professions that may be a good fit considering their skills?? Hrmmm... Suggestions? IRS? ACLU?? Proctology? Pit-bulldog trainer? Snake charmer?

Just can’t resist.

CNN is science fiction right along with NBC and it’s moronic on air personalities.

I guess they don’t need a science department now because Obama is going to make science go away. Everything will be done divinely, now. No more globull warming, etc etc etc.

Very true...along with NBC announcement to layoff “environmental reporters”, it is clear the MSM will not push the global warming hoax during a Dem Presidency.

Bastards.

Are you nuts? They’re saying that CNN is folding their science unit into their envirohysteria unit. That’s the final step in a horrible chain of events.

...... “high tech” was switching from coffee mugs of wallpaper paste to rubber cement .......

My first real job after graduating was in a US Navy office of engineers that were all Project Managers. They shepherded construction projects through the funding mazes and the Congress. I learned the status symbol in the office was a rubber ball, the size of a tennis ball or larger. It was made of rubber cement and grew from picking up the dried rubber cement ooze from pasting up line items on a spread sheet. As changes were made, the line item was typed on a narrow strip and then pasted onto the spread sheet.

I was there a month before being transferred out to a real construction job site and real project manager. Whew.... was that ever a good day.

“We want to integrate environmental, science and technology reporting into the general editorial structure rather than have a stand alone unit.”

Editorial? Doesn’t science deal with clearly demonstrable FACTS?

I guess having both a major and minor in science somehow made me think it had something to do with *facts.* But what do I know?

What, on earth, did they think they'd been doing for the last two decades through their liberal cr@p?
