FOTFLMAO!
And you can bet that bier ain’t Bud or Lite.
As I sit here and tip back a Spaten Optimator, I wish I had joined the German military! Beides not allowing our guys to drink in countries that it is “forbidden” in, we have 18 year olds told they can kill or be responsible for multi million dollar equipment, but cannot have a damn beer.
But dont get me started...
Beer Ping!
A low to medium ping list aimed at all of us who, well, love our beer...
FReepmail rzeznikj at stout or GOP_Raider to be added or struck from the list...
Ah bier, Jah!
Good thing Afghanistan’s a Muslim country. Imagine how drunk the Bundeswehr guys would be if it weren’t.
“Allah akbar!”
“O’zapft is!”
Good beer is food, wouldn’t you agree? (let’s leave out thin, watery “lite” fizzy waters of course); and wine has long been known to have beneficial aspects particularly red wines like cabs and burgundies..
The guys were up there several days. They tossed empty vodka bottles out onto the minefields at night.
We never saw a German crew serve that site but you can imagine them doing the same with Eastie fliptops.
Is that what it was? I heard it was a union contract, at least I was surprised to see workers enjoying their hefes at the canteen. Shows ya how screwy America has become.
I believe they mean "Sekt" not "Seat"
I remember the first time I was in a joint trainex with JDF in the late ‘80’s. Our bivouac area was just a few hundred meters from the Japanese and we could smell their chow being cooked in huge “field” woks - it smelled delicious.
Anyhwho, we wondered over to find the feast that was being prepared along with the big buckets of iced-down Sapporo being served. At that very moment, I knew there was at least one DOD policy that was completely insane. Then, I went back to my hooch and “enjoyed” my MRE and bug juice. Good times. Good times.
bttt
What is the old German saying: “Bread maybe the staff of life, but beer is life itself.”
These are not their grandfather’s German soldiers.
You go ahead and get started, I'll join in. GO#1 id the most flagrant excuse for a lack of leadership that I've ever seen!
No kidding! I am constantly amazed at how ridiculous some of those policies are on alcohol. Best TDY ever, I was TDY to Germany in October of 1991, I missed Oktoberfest but made the wine probes.
When I was an airman I actually had a First Sergeant bringing kegs to me in the dorm to “finish off” after squadron parties. Beer machines in the dorms... Ah the good old days!
I see you are in Georgia, I moved to Warner Robins area after Katrina blew me out of New Orleans!
Right, a pint a day? that’s it? man, that barely washes down the Breakfast Wurst.
En zo, Frankenwein is very good ~ warm summer day, ride a bike out in the country among the asparagras fields, and find a flat spot, then pop a top.
Of course Franconia really doesn't have many warm days, but they have good grapes.
We stayed several weeks once in a German Kaserne where they had “beer machines” but we were on this crazy guard schedule and found it more advantageous to just stop in town. They made the beer in the basement.
Would the American translation be: “There is food value in beer. There is no beer value in food?”
Thats about right—food=beer. Some say civilzation started with beer. I buy it.
