Barack Obama's election as president has generated a number of firsts. The latest may be the creation of a paid holiday in his honor in an Alabama Black Belt county.
At its most recent meeting, the Perry County Commission voted 4-1 to declare the second Monday in November "The Barack Obama Day."
Commissioner Albert Turner Jr., who sponsored the resolution, said flags would be flown on the day and county offices would be closed. He said he hopes county schools also will decide to observe the holiday.

Since he hasn’t been inaugurated and hasn’t done anything yet, this is obviously a racist act by racists.
Well, that seems only fair. After all, during his time in the U.S. Senate, Obama did accomplish much more any of his 99 other colleagues, right?
I mean, this honor is based upon actual performance, isn't it, and not just unrealistic hope tinged with racial bias?
Regards,
Even the first black president hasn’t had a holiday named for him yet.
Well, he did win the popular vote without even being a citizen of the US. That is not a positive accomplishment, but is noteworthy. Kinda like what John Wayne Gacy did.
Seems par for the course as here in Atlanta, the section of Memorial Drive (named for WW2 vets) in Dekalb county is.....(get this) Cynthia McKinney Parkway. I kid you not.
Is this one of those times where women and minorities will be least affected?
You can’t make this kind of comedy up!
“The resolution also contains language to make it difficult, if not impossible, to overturn. It says the Obama Day “shall only be deleted from the county holiday calendar by a majority vote of all the members of the United States Congress, both House and Senate, and a unanimous vote of the Perry County Commission.” “
would Alabama do this if Alan Keyes had won the election?
Nor, in the past has he done anything.
Why a new holiday, he’s already got Kwanzaa.
......Blacks an opportunity to celebrate themselves and history, rather than simply imitate the practice of the dominant society.”[3] The name Kwanzaa derives from the Swahili phrase “matunda ya kwanza”, meaning “first fruits”. The choice of Swahili, an East African language, reflects its status as a symbol of Pan-Africanism, especially in the 1960s.
Kwanzaa is a celebration that has its roots in the black nationalist movement of the 1960s,

now that is a disgrace.........
Puke.
Oh my!! this is ridiculous.

How stupid are these people going to look when it turns out Obama isn’t elegible to be President?
” county offices would be closed”
Take it from their paychecks...
That’s “eligible” not “elegible”. Too quick on the trigger finger (but then that’s not always a bad thing.)
Note that this is a county in Alabama, not the whole state. There are 67 counties in Alabama and 66 have NOT declared the same.
