Costco says 'No' to Christmas...literally
AFA Email | December 2, 2008 | Staff

Costco has 520 stores nationwide. But you will not find "Christmas" in a single store.

That's because Costco says it will not use the term "Christmas" on its website or in its stores. Instead, Costco is telling customers it purposely chooses to use the generic "holiday" verbiage. You know, they stock holiday gifts, not Christmas gifts.

Last week, a customer wrote to Costco and asked this direct question – "Does Costco use the word 'Christmas' in your store advertising or on any signs anywhere in your stores during the Christmas season? That's a pretty simple question, yes or no."

Kory Rosacrans, staff manager for Costco replied, "I guess the answer would be No."

Rosacrans said, "Costco does not advertise on television, on radio or in print like other retailers. We only advertise by mailings and e-mail messages sent directly to our members who have paid for the privilege of shopping with us."

Costco wants you to do your "Christmas" shopping with them, while refusing to recognize that Christmas even exists.

They do try to avoid the word Christmas in their advertising but their customer base is diverse.

So what if their customer base is diverse?

This is the Christmas season. If someone doesn't want to buy Christmas stuff, they don't have to.

Not mentioning Christmas to avoid *offending* anyone is ridiculous and only shows their spineless capitulation to political correctness.

angered believers like me

Wrath is a deadly sin. You're upset that a for-profit enterprise won't exploit Christ's goodwill by using him in commercials. Is commercial advertising the foundation of cultural and religious tradition? Maybe you should be boycotting the businesses that exploit Christian goodwill in their advertising for profit.

Some of you people have too much time on your hands. Its not like if they had “Christmas Ads” it would lead thousands of customers to Christ! If you use this kind of reasoning for shopping, you are going to be weaving your own clothes and growing your on food before too long.

They donate almost exclusively to Democrats. For that reason, I refuse to shop there.

Go to Sam’s Club!

And why is that an excuse for disrespecting the American culture?

I like Sam’s just fine. That’s where I’ll be spending my “Christmas” money.

If such things are obviously intended to be provocative, I find a bit of etymological Jujutsu can quickly turn it on its ear. When greeted with "the holiday" reference, I inquire as to which "holy day" (holiday from the Anglo-Saxon halig dæg) they are celebrating.

Cosco does us a favor by charging us a fee to shop there.

Merry Christmas Sam's Club!

Costco isn't too smart with a decision like this. However, they have been doing that for several Christmas seasons now.

I wonder how many homosexuals they have in the head shed?

There’s a slim chance that O’Reilly will mention this.

Here's one of them:

What is really disturbing is that all of the Christmas items I've looked at are 'Made in China.'

China. Where they execute Christians and otherwise make their lives so miserable that execution is a blessing.
