Mumbai doctor finds no signs of torture on Chabad House bodies
Jerusalem Post ^ | Dec 3, 2008 | By YAAKOV LAPPIN

A hospital doctor at Mumbai's JJ Hospital, which received the bodies of six Jewish and Israeli hostages from the Chabad House terrorist siege, has cast doubt on a report claiming that signs of torture were apparent on the bodies of the victims.

Dr. Gajanan Chawan, who saw the bodies, told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday he did not believe the wounds he observed suggested the hostages had been tortured prior to their deaths.

Asked if he saw any evidence of torture on the bodies, Chawan replied, "No, I don't think so." He added that the majority of the wounds he could identify had been caused by firearms.

On Monday, a morgue employee at the JJ hospital who had also seen the bodies told the Post by telephone that the bodies of the Jewish victims had a higher number of gunshot wounds than the bodies of other victims.

"On the Jewish bodies, there were more injuries in numbers, they were firearms injuries," the morgue official said.

The bodies of the victims were flown to Israel on Monday after successful Israeli diplomatic efforts to prevent autopsies being performed on them in accordance with the religious sensitivities of some of the victims' families.

On November 30, an article was posted on the Rediff Indian news portal which cited an unnamed doctor from an unspecified hospital as claiming that torture marks were evident on the hostages' bodies.

"Of all the bodies, the Israeli victims bore the maximum torture marks. It was clear that they were killed on the 26th itself. It was obvious that they were tied up and tortured before they were killed. It was so bad that I do not want to go over the details even in my head again," the doctor was quoted as saying.

The report has since been widely circulated among news outlets and internet blogs.

At least 172 people are believed to have died over 60 hours during the multiple terror attacks on Mumbai last week.

Regardless....it was premeditated murder...and they are just as dead. And, the murderers are still muslimes.

I know this sounds gruesome and ghoulish, but so far we have absolutely no idea what happened to the hostages except for words — and even then they haven’t been at all descriptive.

The Indians should release photos, or at least graphic descriptions.

I noticed that too. Very vague descriptions - a lack of many of the details which we would normally consider important. Perhaps more will come out soon with an ongoing investigation.

They are, indeed, still dead. However, this clarrification might be of some consolation to their families.

The other repost... “The doctors who conducted the post mortem said the bodies of the terrorists were beyond recognition. “Their faces were beyond recognition.”

“The other doctor, who had also conducted the post-mortem of the victims, said: “Of all the bodies, the Israeli victims bore the maximum torture marks.”

vs

Dr. Gajanan Chawan, who saw the bodies..

Who is Dr. Gajanan Chawan? Why is his comment after ‘seeing’ the bodies of greater significance than those who performed the post-mortem?

What have the Israeli doctors who received the bodies not been cited in this?

No they were humanely shot by members of the religion of peace in a hate crime.

Those are good questions.

It has been stated that there was no post mortem, in the case of the Israelis, for religious reasons. At least, that is what I read in another news report (if true, this is surprising).

Dr. Gajanan Chawan is said to be the doctor in charge in Mumbai. The other doctors quoted in stories about torture were not named, and the quotations were very florid and improbable, so maybe all that was just a rumour.

What have the Israeli doctors who received the bodies not been cited in this?

Perhaps they will be, soon.

Atlas Shrugs posted a statement from Rivka’s father, who said she was 5 1/2 months pregnant when she died.

No words for what I felt when I found that out.

“”On the Jewish bodies, there were more injuries in numbers, they were firearms injuries,” the morgue official said. “

Wait a minute. Why isn’t it torture when you slowly shoot someone to death, missing vital organs until the last shot?

When multiple gunshot wounds are present, severe bruising results. To the untrained eye this can resemble a manual beating to the skin.

I thought the first doctor who examined had lots of experience with dead bodies from various causes of violent death?. How could these 2 different physician exams be so wide apart in their evaluation?

So...... murdering a mans wife right of him before he's himself murdered isn't torture.

Thanks for clearing that up. L

Actually the second doctor didn’t examine the bodies, or at least the report doesn’t say he did. He just saw the bodies, whatever that means.

The Jewish mother murdered in the brutal Mumbai terror attacks last week was six month pregnant, her father revealed today at her funeral.

And Rivkah Holtzberg’s two-year-old son, Moshe, may have been beaten by the militants, reports have claimed.

His back was covered in bruises consistent with abuse, the chairman of Zaka, Israel’s ultraorthodox recovery service, told Sky News.

Today Moshe’s grandfather revealed that his daughter Rivkah had been six months pregnant as he gave a eulogy at her funeral.

“Why is his comment after ‘seeing’ the bodies of greater significance than those who performed the post-mortem?”

Beacause he is a named source who can be questioned.

Further the eyewitness account of the heroic nanny suggests they were not tortured.
