WASHINGTON - It is a simple transfer of immense power.
On Jan. 20, an unobtrusive military officer carrying a small leather-bound metal briefcase will follow President George W. Bush up to Capitol Hill. After the inauguration ceremony, he will accompany President Barack Obama back to the White House.
Inside the attaché, known as "the football," are the codes to identify and authenticate a presidential order that could launch nuclear weapons and ignite a global holocaust.
Routine to us, perhaps astonishing to much of the world, this peaceful passing of "the football" will propel Obama into a maelstrom. What awaits the new commander in chief is the weighty responsibility of defending the United States - and a nasty brew of nuclear weapons problems that range from the threat of terrorist attacks to potential new regional and superpower arms races. Iran and North Korea are rushing headlong toward building nuclear arsenals. And the main arms reduction treaty with Russia expires next year.

I am not listening to the broadcast. Check the thread about Plains talk radio with Leo. It supposedly happened on Nov 25th. pelosi only certified his nomination..not that he was eligible to hold office.
Just give the little prick a red wagon and a passy ... keep it at his level.
But are we?
Hed never have the stones to take them out and use them. Even if a few US cities were smoking holes.
And the bad guys, of which there is no shortage, know this as well. Kinda kicks "deterrence" right in the head.
clinton forgot alot of things the boy did so much coke and weed.
‘The most sober and startling I ever heard, Ronald Reagan said after his first briefing on the nuclear options - so disturbing that it helped launch him on a quest to abolish nuclear weapons altogether.’
The idea of “abolishing nuclear weapons” is stupid and wrongheaded.
How could we ever be sure that a (potential) enemy hadn’t held a few back, or found a way to clandestinely manufacture some?
Further, in their role as a deterrent, nuclear weapons have almost certainly prevented one or more world wars since World War II. They are more a force for peace than almost anything in history.
Even if nuclear weapons WERE “abolished” we still face very real and deadly chemical and biological threats that are potentially every bit as bad, particularly in a terrorist scenario. So, eliminating nuclear weapons doesn’t even make the planet “safer” in any real way.
What we need is a strong nuclear weapon modernization program, and a military buildup in general. What we got is President Elect “No Nukes” 0bama, the 21st Century McGovern.
Great job, brilliant American voters. Exactly the wrong guy for the times.
