"War level" security in India after Mumbai attacks

NEW DELHI (Reuters) -India will increase security in the country and on its borders to a "war level" in the wake of the deadly attacks in Mumbai that killed nearly 200 people, a government minister said on Sunday.

"Our intelligence will be increased to a war level, we are asking the state governments to increase security to a war level," Sriprakash Jaiswal, India's minister for state for home affairs, told Reuters in an interview.

India said on Sunday it had proof of a Pakistani link to the Mumbai attacks, while officials in Islamabad said it would move troops to the Indian border if tensions between the nuclear-armed rivals spilt over.

"They can say what they want, but we have no doubt that the terrorists had come from Pakistan," Jaiswal said.

India has already boosted coastal security with the Indian Navy and the coast guard carrying out coordination patrols.

The Mumbai attackers are said to have come to the city by sea from the Pakistani port of Karachi, according to security officials.

Expected, but not good news.

This will take the Pakistan army away from the fight in Taliban controlled areas. I wonder if this is the stimulus which leads to a full fledged world war.

How serious was Pakistan about al Qaeda and the Taliban in the first place?

“How serious was Pakistan about al Qaeda and the Taliban in the first place?”

IMO the Pak govt was serious but the Pak army was not. They aren’t the same over there. The nukes are still controlled by the government with help from the US.

” How serious was Pakistan about al Qaeda and the Taliban in the first place? “

Under Musharraf, it was half-hearted — post-Musharraf, it’s devolved to ‘lip service’....

Fear based “lip service”. They know who the enemy is and where they are. But are afraid to confront them.

Just heard on Fox that the one guy they captured is being tortured. News lady in India said torture is perfectly accepted there.

It is better for Pakistan to come to a conclusion now after 60 years. It should be invaded, occupied and become a joint India/US protectorate, with a complete de-muhajadeenization program against all jihadi extremists, and the maddrassah should all be closed down. Make an Eastern, Indian sector of Pakistan and a Western, USA sector of it.

Sounds like they may arrive at the “truth” if that is the case. Believe I read here yesterday that the terrorist said “Kill me now”. Imagine their brand of torture is at a level we’ve never heard of.

Yes, no doubt they are torturing and he is giving them all kinds of names and addresses of cells as well as his paymasters in Islamabad. Pakistan is going to have quite some explaining to do. For procedural sake, India should demand an emergency meeting of the Security Council of the UN and bring the evidence, but on the side it should prepare for war with Pakistan.

She mentioned that, he said that because he doesn’t want to be tortured. Sounds like they are doing it right. No panties on the head I’m guessing.

India and US will have to eventually secure everything from Syria to Pakistan — but we don’t have the resources to do that — yet. During WWII the US mustered 16 million Army, Navy, Marines and (Army) Air Force with half the population of today. If we wanted to, with India’s help, we could secure the entire Middle East.

Agreed. It was exposed as a rogue state 15 years ago with BCCI. And now it’s beyond doubt that Pakistan is a nuclear proliferator, a nexus of jihadi terrorism and training, and (not so commonly discussed by the negligent US MSM) a narcoeconomy (Afghan opium).

Pakistan is clearly a failed state.

Don’t know why we’ve been coddling them or why they’re not a cornerstone in the Axis Of Evil.

Pakistan is just as illegimate as the so-called "Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea" or North Korea.

It is a rogue state. It supports terror.

It is a cancer on civiliation.

It must be taken out. India is and should be in the vanguard of that effort. Those that cherish freedom and have had ENOUGH of radical islam attacks on the world of for the last 20 years and particularly the last 10 years, should get solidly behind INDIA in this coming war.

I know the enemies of India, (and of Israel, the USA and freedom), i.e. those who coddle Islamofascism, will be on the other side and will be mobilized against India.

Like E.F. Hutton, when Saudi money speaks, everybody listens. Just guessing.

Early on in the events (our Thursday morning, their Thursday night) there were several credible reports that 6 jihadis had been captured, followed by a very plausible story on the tactics and procedures of the terrorists that IMO could only have come directly from them. It was too casually well-informed and sensible to have been rumor, and indeed proved to be true in retrospect (wish I had save the URL or bookmarked it, but I didn’t).

In any case it seems likely that the “6 captured” was in fact true; that they were tortured and spilled their guts (which explains the 1 remaining guy’s horror and wish to be killed); and indeed that this was exactly and precisely the kind of situatiojn where torture is warranted to protect from further possible carnage.

There have been rumors that terrorist actions were also planned for Bangalore, and other actions globally. Presumably that also came from the captured terrorists.

Well I couldn't agree with you more.

And I've believed that since before 9/11 (from BCCI and the Pakistani nuclear program).
