The evidence from two studies comes as the number of women having an abortion in England and Wales exceeded 200,000 for the first time last year.
More abortions 57,000 were carried out on women aged 20 to 24 than any other age group. However, there were 4,400 on the under-16s.
Anxiety and drug abuse are the most common mental problems after an abortion, according to a study of 500 women published today in the British Journal of Psychiatry.
Professor David Fergusson, who led the research, said the findings had important implications because more than 90 per cent of British abortions were authorised on the grounds that keeping an unwanted baby would cause the mother mental health problems.
He said: This evidence clearly poses a challenge to the use of psychiatric reasons to justify abortion. There is nothing in this study that would suggest that the termination of pregnancy was associated with lower risks of mental health problems than birth.

Gee, severe psychological problems that lead to drug and alcohol abuse after destroying a growing human life? Who knew! Isn’t it just supposed to be a simple “choice”?
Ive had this theory that anyone whos participated in an abortion becomes a leftist Democratic Drone for the rest of his or her life. Extrapolate those numbers over thirty-five years, and you begin to see why these elections are going the way they are.
NO!!! Didn’t happen that way for me. After years of silence I finally shared the guilt of my abortion with a friend only to be stunned by the revelation that she too had done the same. And we both couldn’t be stronger Republicans. Don’t want others to go through the living hell of post abortion life.
I have always wondered how many women that go off the deep end for no apparent reason, and sometimes either harm or kill their born children have had abortions and are suffering mentally from the tremendous guilt that they are feeling?
Susan Smith had at least one abortion a few years before she killed her two little boys. Margot Kidder, Lois Lane in the Superman movies, admitted to having an abortion in a book, and sometime in the 80’s was found wandering around somewhere completely incoherent. I’ve always had a suspicion that that may have precipitated Britney Spears’s breakdown, especially since it happened right after the birth of her two babies. Some women who have had abortions and then later give birth to other children have severe guilt feelings looking at their alive children because it brings home the horror of what they have done.

Definitely a lot of mental problems.
Pray for these young women.
That looks like a wonderful place and tremendous, greatly-needed resource....thanks very much for posting.
Agreed and well-stated; thank you for posting
How do they know these women weren’t crazy to begin with?
It seems intuitively obvious that such an action would lead to frequent troubles. To intentionally end the life of a person inside you, who is a physical as well as a deeply emotional part of you, and to have that 'not' have severe consequences would, I think, be the exception for most.
Part of conducting any successful study is in the proper selection of the subjects. Dr. Fergusson is a worldwide authority on conducting such studies, the results of which are being published in the leading peer-reviewed journal in the field. Including compromised subjects in the study would be the very most obvious, basic and elementary flaw imaginable and would result in the instant destruction of his career and the negation of his life's work. If this has happened in this case, rest assured that such a finding will be instantly pounced upon and published far and wide.
Oops, of course I should have prefaced with "except for the grace and mercy of Christ and the promptings of the Holy Spirit." Perhaps it's the internal struggle against Him that makes then Dems.
Praising God for your friend.
Awesome! You were able to be honest with yourself though, which I think is what sets you apart from most others.
