MUMBAI, India (AP) - A 60-hour terror rampage across India's financial capital ended Saturday when commandos killed the last three gunmen holed up in a luxury hotel engulfed in flames. At least 195 people died.
After the final siege ended, adoring crowds surrounded six buses near the hotel carrying weary, unshaven commandos, shaking their hands and giving them flowers. The commandos, dressed in black fatigues, said they had been ordered not to talk about the operation, but said they had not slept since the ordeal began. One sat sipping a bottle of water and holding a pink rose.
"What happened is disgusting," said Suresh Thakkar, 59, who reopened his clothing store behind the hotel Saturday for the first time since the attacks. "It will be harder to recover, but we will recover. Bombay people have a lot of spirit and courage." Mumbai was formerly known as Bombay.
Officials said they believe just 10 well-prepared gunmen were behind the attacks that brought the city of 18 million to its knees for three days.

Only 10 gunmen were able to wreak such havoc over such a long period of time?
That’s very troubling.
India will join other victim countries in stepping up national security, hopefully.
"Thats very troubling."
It's also somthing to think very hard about. Stay safe.
Bart.
A wake up call? I hope you are right.
Only 10 gunmen were able to wreak such havoc over such a long period of time?”
Why am I thinking that they had a change of clothing. and they joined the “hostages” in getting out and free????
It could not have been just 10 gunmen:
There were attacks in 10 different locations.
I won’t buy the idea that there was just one gunman in each location> Not at all...
God bless those brave armed men that stand between the innocent and the murderers. Be they US Special Forces, Israeli Soldiers, Indian Commandos, or Russian Spetsnaz, God bless them all.
I do not think the “RAGE” has ended.
I think the ‘RAGE” has yet to come.
When these Indians understand who and what and how and why, they will show RAGE.
And deservedly so.
Hell with that show the other cheek b.s., time to smite the bad guys,
they only believe there were 10. they probably will never know the exact number. I’d bet there were more involved who fled. Even if it was only 10, with the weapons they had available and the lack of intelligence to see this attack coming, I’m surprised the toll has not been higher so far.
Analysis: Mumbai attack differs from past terror strikes
While the exact size of the assault force and the support cells is still not known, police estimate about 25 gunmen were involved in the attack. The number of members of the supporting cells that provide financing, training, transportation, and other services could be two to four times this number. Operational security for such a large unit, or grouping of cells, is difficult to maintain and requires organization and discipline.
SHOCKER - One Terrorist was a Chef at Taj
*****************************EXCERPT INTRO*******************************
In a shocking revelation on late Friday night, it has been reported that one of the terrorists holed up in hotel Taj Mahal was doing his internship there as Trainee Chef for past 10 months.
The revelation came after the family of one of the Trainee Chef who was killed inside the hotel came out to reveal that the deceased called them before dying and said that he has been shot by his friends.
This disclosure has made it clear that there were more terrorists in the hotel than suspected. This revelation has also made it clear that the planning of this attack was going on for at least a year and the terrorists had everything in place to carry off this attack.
It is also suspected that this terrorist might have amassed arms and ammunition in the hotel prior to the attack, which prolonged the battle. He is also suspected to have helped in planning the attacks as he had access to all parts of the hotel and knew the location inside out.
A minister had anonymously revealed on Thursday that the terrorists had set up control rooms inside the hotel from where they launched the attack.

I’ve worked in luxury hotels. There are usually employees from everywhere. I think the USA (and British) hotels need to start being more cautious about hiring.
Absolutely!
And then there's the 150+ million muzzies who reside in India...
Excellent point!
I find that extremely troubling, and I suspect the Indian command will come in for criticism as time goes by. Certainly, in the beginning, 10 terrorists can kill quite a few people as they did when they invaded the restaurant. However, how could it take 3 days to rid several buildings of only a total of 10 people. Something seems very wrong here.
