Lately someone has started adding me to certain Yahoo groups without my permission. At first I thought it was just gibberish, and I reported it to Yahoo Abuse. FYI: don't bother, they have a computer replying to their email with the same questions over and over that you already answered, nobody even bothers reading your complaints. I tried just leaving the groups myself, but I keep getting added to more of them.

On a whim I plugged some of the gibberish into an online translator. It turned out to be a mixture of middle-eastern languages (croatian, slavic, arabic, etc) discussing helicopter components! It still didn't make much sense, but the translators I found were very limited, its possible someone who speaks the language would do better.

That was 2 weeks ago. I immediately sent that message to the Homeland Security tip line, but there has been no response whatsoever. Not even a form email saying "Yes, we got your message". Nothing.

I keep getting these emails from more groups every day. I've been saving them, but how do I get them to someone who will actually do something with them?

Well, sounds like something's been hacked, either on your end or on Yahoo. I can't imagine why a free Yahoo identity is all that valuable? Is it possible that someone is playing a dumb joke on you? If not, I wouldn't use that computer for logging into your banking accounts until you get it checked out for spyware, worms, or whatever.

The group names change almost daily, today one is Iranroshan, yesterday that same group was called Irant11. There’s also been a ghabe_aks125 and a Levels-Group1.

I got so many gibberish emails I suspected code could be embedded and wrote to the HSD years ago with no reply.
I hope they have some big computer somewhere working through this stuff.

Ah...go ahead and call them. You’ll have a better chance of talking to a computer crime specialist during a week day though. Tell them what you’ve discovered. I “think” they’ll be interested in hearing it.

Here's the "game". Person #1 sends YOU information in an e-mail while spoofing the SMTP (e-mail address) of person #2. So when you hit the "reply" button to tell person #1 to go away and stop, you don't actually reply to who sent it, but to person #2. If you do like most people, you'll include the content of the message by default. Actually, your MUA (mail program) will do this for you. You think you're sending a message to person #1, when actually you just forwarded the message to person #2 in your effort to get person #1 to stop sending you this "junk".

If what I described above is happening, they're using you (and others) to unknowingly forward messages.

Like I said...call the FBI. :-)
