That's a very weird story.

The Independent story you link to says "The Independent can reveal how the astonishing picture came to be taken by a newspaper photographer who hid inside a train carriage as gunfire erupted all around him."

The Mumbai Mirror actually posted those train station photos two days ago (they also have been widely circulated under the Reuters byline), along with the first person written account of the photographer Sebastian D'Souza *including* his statement that the police inside the train station weren't firing at the terrorists and that he wished he'd had a gun.

D'Souza's personal account is really hair-raising, first he got up close and personal photos of the terrorists *while they were doing their deadly business* at Victoria Terminus, then they shot at him, then he helped a bunch of train commuters to escape unscathed, then he hooked-up with the police and was shot at *again* by the terrorists, except this time a policeman told him to take cover and seconds later the policeman was shot and fell right next to him.
