Getting into space has a number of purposes. But I suspect this may be related to Obama’s having said several times that he wants to outlaw all weapons in space. No American weapons up there.
Which, of course, means that either the Russians or the Chinese will get the first chance to seize the high ground, at which point it might be too late.
On the other hand, if the world economy goes belly up, I suspect that Russia and China will likely suffer worse than the US, and China may fall apart.
Also it was rats like Fritz Mondale who hated the space program worse.
Elon Musk will save our space program.
A lousy 2 billion a year, we spend that turning over in our sleep for Wall Street, or WalMart. If I were prez I’d funnel over 100 billion plus into NASA, go to Mars, put up the Webb Space Telescope and 10 more like it, and send unmanned rovers to all of the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. That’s just for openers, and 100 billion is nothing in today’s (and I mean today, or yesterday, or next week) free spending D.C.
Well only one President has his signature on a monument plaque permantly resting on the lunar surface. Guess which one? (hint, he isn't known by his 3 letter initials.)
Correction. Musk and other space entrepreneurs just might open space access for the rest of us, finally. Assuming that the Obamnoids don't prohibit it through overbearing regulations and taxation.
And he had been president for about six months. It had nothing to do with his feelings about NASA, or anything he had ever done for them, but the coincidence of him being president at the time.
If the Ares I (the rocket to launch the crew) is a goner, “scaling back” is another way of saying the Orion will never fly, right?

Expected but still depressing.
Will somebody explain to me why so many liberals like Star Trek, if they’re opposed to space exploration?
Every episode ends up in court and everyone must Conform.
