Chasm? No, not hardly. The population of FreeRepublic is very well informed about political goings-on, but we are a tiny subset of a small minority of Americans. Almost nobody in the US has ever heard of this. Its not an issue. Its not going to be an issue. No court is going to toss out the election results for this. Pretending otherwise is just wishful thinking at best.
Its not right, but that's the way it is.
