Eye on the Senate: Chambliss Ahead in Georgia, 52%-46%
CQ Politics ^ | November 28, 2008 | Staff

First-term Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss holds a 52 percent to 46 percent lead over Democratic challenger James Martin), a former state representative, in their Dec. 2 runoff battle, according to a Research 2000 survey conducted Nov. 23-25. Two percent are undecided and the margin of error is 4 points.

Research 2000 makes the same observation that Public Policy Polling did in its Nov. 22-23 poll: that Chambliss has been able to widen his lead because, this time around, Barack Obama is not on the ballot to lure a larger turnout. PPP had Chambliss leading Martin 53 percent to 41 percent.

An InsiderAdvantage/Politico poll conducted Nov. 23 had Chambliss ahead 50 percent to 47 percent with 3 percent undecided.

"This thing's going to be a nail-biter. We don't know who's going to turn out and we don't know how it's going to turn out, but it's going to be a close race," said InsiderAdvantage CEO Matt Towery.

Chambliss has been able to widen his lead because this time around McCain is not on the ticket either.

It’s been infuriating driving around Atlanta and seeing Martin signs EVERYWHERE. I was in the Emory area, which is a nicer section of town, and I never saw a Chambliss sign.

I guess the whole city has been overrun by northeners. I’ve never seen so many people willing to spite their own future outlooks by voting for Democrats because the taxes are coming out of their hides.

No worries.... Sarah will take care of business on Monday and it’ll be a done deal. 7-9% victory margin IMO.

I think he’ll win by more. Many thousands of voters went to the polls for Obama alone, and maybe do get the nuances of giving the Savior another vote in the Senate. And besides, they’d have to stand in line again, did enough of that for this year.

The minute you enter inside 285 it is all Dems, cross the country line into Gwinnett, Cobb, N. Fulton, Douglas, etc. and it is like being in a different state.

now that you mentioned Emory, I was reading a book about the suburban growth in Atlanta and the rise of GOP leaders like Gingrich. Of course the super lib historian called it subliminal racism

Yeah, but you’ve gotta remember: the dead voters, pets, and double voters don’t answer polls. They just magically appear at the ballot box.

Yeah, well, that is what I was seeing here on 11/03/08 regarding the defeat of Hussein. And look what we got.

In the early voting results I saw recently, the black vote was running 23% of the total, down from 31% in the general. If that trend continues, I don't see how Martin wins unless the Republicans just don't turn out. That's why they're bringing in Sarah IMO, to prop that up.

of course he's ahead....in any other state, he would already be the winner since he beat out two other candidates.....

lets get the ship back on course folks...we have an opening to stifle the crap that zero will try to pull....its starts with Chambliss and Coleman....and in two years, we'll make more gains....

What planet did you drop in from where that would actually be a surprise to you? John Lewis, Cynthia McKinney, the entire King family, Andrew Young, Sidney Dorsey, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Bill Campbell, Hartsfield Airport.......

It has to be remembered we are also further down the road from the general election of Nov 4th. We have been able to see who 'the one' has started loading his cabinet with and it has not please the left at all.

This could be a landslide of retribution.
