A worker died after being trampled and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island Wal-Mart Friday morning, witnesses said.
The unidentified worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

They need to arrest them all for tragic ignorance. Charge them all for murder and let them all talk their way out of it, if they can, with the video as backup. Unbelievable.
Just one more reason to exercise your 2nd Amendment rights.
So sad, I have been to WalMart’s early shopping twice and there was nothing riotous about it but it wasn’t exactly a relaxing stroll in the park either. I stayed home.
ditto
Wal-Mart needs to have the pants sued off of them for this. Pure negligence, allowing for this free-for-all. What did they expect?
Very sobering thought you posted.
How is this the fault of Walmart? Just imagine Walmart canceling Black Friday sales in all inner-city stores because the customers are animals and cannot control themselves. What would that lead to?
How is this Walmart’s fault? They provide a service, yes it is a good deal and there are limited choices, but does that mean that people have to act like animals? Same thinking is what got Obama elected. Blame someone else for problems I created for myself. The ‘People’ are too stupid to know any better so lets blame the people ‘in control’. Yeh sounds great.
I do not think it is funny. RIP. Those Black Friday stampedes and about as dangerous as Spain’s Bull Run
A lot of other stores have orderly ways of handling the shoppers, like giving out wristbands and assigning numbers to people, this avoids the free-for-alls that you see at Wal-Mart.
“Dear Lord, Save us from ourselves...”
No truer words ever spoken.
yup. they need to close the doors and hold everyone in until the police goes over the video taped evidence. Someone else’s greed killed this boy. RIP.
I don’t do Black Friday, haven’t done it since I was a kid and had no choice in the matter. I remember those crowds and the pushing and the shoving and couldn’t understand why the people were so mean and nasty.
Macy’s Herald Square mid 1960s.
Not all Walmarts have stampedes and riots either so i suspect the problem is with the mob, not the retailer.
I also make my kids take care of all of their stuff, cleaning, dragging to the garage when they don’t want it in their room, etc. We don’t have much of a problem with charity, or having too many things.
This is disgusting. There is absolutely nothing I want this bad.
Sign of the times, I guess.
God bless them and their families.
I was stuck in a moving crowd once at Taste of Chicago. People were pushing from the back, and my feet nearly left the ground as the whole mass of people surged forward. Crowds have a dynamic all their own. The people who trampled these poor folks likely had no control over their movements.
I agree. Most people amazingly don’t calculate the possibility of mayhem in large crowds.
I just can’t stomach the thought of standing in line with so many shallow idiots. I know that sounds elitest, but, frankly, mayhem usually doesn’t break out among thoughtful, composed individuals, and those people either shop online, do their shopping earlier, or simply buy what they can in a normal environment. Any adult who camps out 48 hours for a cellphone belongs in isolation somewhere. I can maybe see teenagers doing something like that (I camped out for enough concert tickets in my youth) but it just amazes me how immature and selfish adults have become.
