Intermittent sounds of gunfire and explosions continued to break the stillness around two luxury hotels and a multi-storey building as security forces engaged in a fierce gunbattle with hiding terrorists, nearly 22 hours after terror struck prime locations in the city, leaving at least 125 dead. So far seven terrorists have been killed, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said.
The situation around the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel, the Oberoi Trident Hotel and the Nariman Bhavan at Nariman Point - the three places where the battle with terrorists is raging - continued to be tension-filled on Thursday evening.
A loud explosion broke out at the Oberoi Trident and flames leapt out of the hotel windows in the evening. There was also a fresh fire at the Taj Hotel, in another section.
Chief Minister Deshmukh told mediapersons that so far seven terrorists had been eliminated in gunbattles with the security forces, as three more grenade explosions rocked the Taj Hotel.
The terrorists struck a total of 13 places in different parts of the city and suburbs, killing at least 101 people and injuring another 327, Deshmukh asserted.
The chief minister said six foreign nationals were killed and seven others have been injured in the terror attacks.
According to Deshmukh, there have been "no negotiations" with the terrorists. He said the operations would continue through the night and even till Friday morning if the situation so warranted.
He said that 800 army personnel, two units of the navy, 200 personnel of the crack National Security Guards (NSG) are involved in the operation to flush out, kill or capture the terrorists.
Extra teams of doctors have been deployed to treat victims at various hospitals. Arrangements have also been made in nearby hotels to provide alternative accommodation to the guests staying in the two hotels.
An eyewitness said that terrorists lobbed a grenade at approaching security forces as they surrounded Nariman Bhavan building and began attempts to storm it. At least six terrorists are believed to be hiding inside Nariman Bhavan, just behind the Oberoi Trident Hotel.
The crisis of hostages at the Taj Hotel ended by late afternoon, but security forces continued their operation to wrest control of the premises, even at the Oberoi Trident, nearly 22 hours after the first attacks.
The combined security operation, which includes the army, navy, National Security Guards, Anti-Terrorism Squad and police, at the Oberoi is expected to be intensified as the personnel carry out combing operations.
While south Mumbai, where most of the attacks took place, remained practically deserted, a few offices which chose to open in the suburban business hubs closed by 4 pm and people returned home.
Around 1 am on Thursday morning following an SOS by the state government, the Indian Navy sent a team of marine commandos to the Taj and Oberoi hotels.
A defence spokesman said they managed to enter the Taj around 2.45 am and started efforts to evacuate the occupants. However, they faced stiff resistance from the heavily armed terrorists who were well entrenched inside.
In the cross-firing in the night-long operations which still continues, two commandos were injured. The combing operations led to the recovery of a rucksack filled with a cache of arms and explosives.
These included plastic explosives, 8-9 loaded AK-47 magazines, large quantities of ammunition, hand grenades, detonators, batteries, wristwatches for IEDs, foreign currencies, fake credit cards, cash and dry fruits carried by the terrorists.
Navy ships and aircraft have been deployed to sanitize the Arabian Sea areas off the coast of Mumbai and investigate the movements of suspicious sea vessels and crafts with all security measures placed in high states of readiness.
The defence spokesman added that a suspicious looking vessel, MV Alpha, carrying general cargo was chased by a naval frigate and a fast attack craft. It was also contacted on radio and ordered to stop. It was finally intercepted and investigated at sea around 12.15 on Thursday afternoon.
Naval personnel engaged in checking the antecedents and documents of the ship and her crew, said later that everything was in order. The vessel, registered in Panama, arrived Mumbai nine days ago from Karachi and sailed out of Mumbai on Wednesday.

>>>>>>I noted one of the people killed in the train station was a mussie using his prayer rug.<<<<<
Curious, did you spot that in the photos or read it somewhere?
In either case it’s not at all surprising, I expected to eventually hear something about Muslim casualties.
Its pretty bad. And well organized.

>>>>>See the prayer rug?<<<<<
Sure does look like one, along with the sandals placed neatly beside the rug.
Sounds like a guerilla war going on here....
I watched CNN reporters and special guests, supposed experts in terrorism, struggle to find a motive behind the attacks without saying "Islamic".
It was an absolute screech!!
Finally a guest expert from the FBI used "Islamic" to describe several of the groups thought to be possibly behind the attacks [he said "Islamic" several times in one sentence]....and the CNN staffers all but went OHH...holding their hands over their mouths.
Really high comedy!!
Just read your post. You might get a kick out of my post at #30. CNN is a hoot!!
How did these people just manage to show up with all kinds of automatic guns, grenades, etc.?
Where did they come from and why weren’t they detected before they could go around causing all this mayhem?
Yup.
This was very well planned.
You are correct; Lenin knew of them before this crop was born.
I cant answer those questions
>>>>>I watched CNN ... struggle to find a motive behind the attacks without saying “Islamic”. <<<<<<
Heh.
That’s also causing a problem over on Kos.
They are making up the “targeted Americans” story despite zero American deaths and only 3 or 4 American injured (out of hundreds of victims).
Fallback is that “the rich and powerful were targeted” despite completely random shootings of Indian civilians at Victoria Terminus train station, despite throwing hand grenades at fire trucks, despite 95 dead Indian nationals (large numbers of hotel employees), and despite the random shooting at a large crowd of Indian journalists.
I’d say they were just being conventionally braindead “progressives” but this is just TOO stupid, there is absolutely not one shred of evidence or actual reporting that anything at all was targeted (except 5 star hotels and a train station).
So I have to conclude that they’re deliberately manufacturing brazen lies, and then telling those lies to each other!
Bombay, is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra and the financial capital of India. With an estimated population of 20 million, it is one of the most populous cities in the world.[1] Along with the neighbouring suburbs of Navi Mumbai and Thane, it forms, at 19 million, the world's fifth most populous metropolitan area. Mumbai lies on the west coast of India and has a deep natural harbour. Mumbai's port handles over half of India's maritime cargo.[2]Make Mumbai seem like a dangerous place, and you strike a heavy blow. Foreign investors and business executives won't want to visit. Who benefits? China and Pakistan. China because India is an economic competitor in Asia. Pakistan because a weakened India is less of a threat, and may even be convinced into paying "protection" money.Mumbai is the commercial and entertainment centre of India, generating 5% of India's GDP[3] and accounting for 25% of industrial output, 40% of maritime trade, and 70% of capital transactions to India's economy.[4] Mumbai is one of the world's top ten centres of commerce by global financial flow,[5] home to important financial institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India, the Bombay Stock Exchange, the National Stock Exchange of India and the corporate headquarters of many Indian companies and numerous multinational corporations. The city also houses India's hindi film and television industry, known as Bollywood. Mumbai's business opportunities, as well as its high standard of living, attract migrants from all over India and, in turn, make the city a potpourri of many communities and cultures.
SOP for Kos and the entire Mainstream. It will become even more brazen and widespread with Obama, (DUH1), in the Whitehouse.
>>>>SOP for Kos and the entire Mainstream.<<<<
I know, but it’s still astonishing.
There is NOTHING, ZERO, NADA from which to conclude that they were “targeting Americans”.
No American deaths, few American injuries, no known American hostages, nothing. By all accounts it’s a conventional Islamic Jihadist terror attack in India, on a somewhat larger and more well-planned scale than is normal.
The Rats and the MSM are living in an alternate reality.
