Leading opponents of the war have mostly been silent as president-elect Barack Obama, who first built his national image on the foundation of his early opposition to the Iraq war, assembles a group of national security hands that is anything but a team of doves.
It's a disorienting moment for the peace wing of the Democratic Party, at once elated America selected a new president opposed to the Iraq war and momentarily disoriented by the imminent removal of a commander-in-chief whose every action they've opposed for the past eight years.
“Shock has paralyzed them for the moment,” said Steven Clemons, a senior fellow at the New America Foundation who writes The Washington Note, a popular foreign policy blog. “We are in an Obama bubble now. And it’s tough to step out and be first to deflate the bubble.”
Especially, he added, before that bubble takes shape.
“You’ve got some people like myself who are saying there may be an interesting design in what Obama is trying to do. Maybe it doesn’t fit easily in a neatly sculpted box of liberal pacifist and warmonger hawk. Maybe it’s more complex than that.”
Still, it’s clearly a team that tilts to the right of Democratic foreign policy thought.

Just mentioned on CNN: Obama to keep US troops in Iraq until December, 2011, followed by a “peace-keeping force.” LOL! LOL!
During the campaign Barry clearly stated he would move our forces out of Iraq and into Afghanistan, and that he would invade Pakistan. He also called for universal service to the country (a draft).
What is so hard for the lefties to understand? Why did they vote for this guy?
One thing that the morons on the left just don’t seem to get is, if you’ve seen one politician, you’ve seen them all. Skin color doesn’t change anything. They are all the same and are after the same thing. Money, power and screwing over the taxpayers.
Too many people underestimated him on both sides of the aisle. He’s far from stupid and all too willing to say what he needs to be said in the moment to garner attention and votes. He was told by people in the know that if he just pulls out of Iraq then the place goes to pot in no time flat and he gets the blame. Not only that he loses the trust of the military and that simply won’t fly either.
He’s going to be far more centrist than promised which will be really hard to beat in 4 years.

Like everything else about his life, Barry told all the lies he needed to to get what he wanted. I love these naieve lefties. It reminds me of 1975 all over again. Around that time, everyone woke up and realized everything they had been complaining about for the last eight years didn’t even really matter because the events and policies of a great nation have a life of their own.
Obama is finding out now, from his “experienced” advisors, that there was very little Bush was actually doing that didn’t make logical sense once you knew all the behind the scenes forces at play. His only improvement over Bush can really be temperment and communications style which have been Bush’s only real flaw since the beginning.
I give the lefties three months after innauguration day to take the gloves off and start publicly admitting they have been had. The first sign that this whole exercise is not a mandate will be a Chambliss victory for Senate in December. People wanted their black president. Now they can go back to their sofas and expect he will fix everything and pay their mortgages too!
