Have so much to be thankful for, no doubt. But how much longer do we have?
I have always heard about this democracy countdown.
About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:
'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government'
'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.'
'From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'
'The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years'
'During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:
1. from bondage to spiritual faith; 2. from spiritual faith to great courage; 3. from courage to liberty; 4. from liberty to abundance; 5. from abundance to complacency; 6. from complacency to apathy; 7. from apathy to dependence; 8. from dependence back into bondage'
Were we arrogant to think the US would be immune from history and human nature?
Interesting observations:
Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29 Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1
'In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country.
If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

Sorry, Alexander Fraser Tytler is the source of the doomsday scenario on democracy:

I think that says it all...
The author can get back to me when he learns the difference between a Republic and democracy.
I’m seeing a parallel between the last days of Roman Republic and the dictatorship of Caesar.
“When men give up their freedom willingly in the name of security, they soon loose even that degraded security.”
——Cicero
Sounds like Ben Franklin, doesn’t it.
Democracy to Dictatorship Countdown: How Many Years Does the US Have Left (The Unavoidable Trend?)
America is not a Democracy
America was establsihed as a Constitutional based Federal Republic
It has been for some time a socialist lite nation.
With a full fledged Socialist as the President elect, America should be a defacto part of the European Union within 3-4 years.
Constitutional Republic
“The author can get back to me when he learns the difference between a Republic and democracy.”
Our Republic was democratized a long time ago.
Don't nitpick. The author clearly means a representative democracy, which is a republic.
wow. have you got a source for that?? I would love to show it to some others.
Whether enough of “we” want it to survive is an open question at this moment in our history. Perhaps enough of “we” can get our act together during the next dacade or so to derail the socialist autocracy juggernaut, perhaps not. Perhaps we will be able to find a leader around whom we can rally, one that is more dedicated to America’s survival and improvement than to “reaching across the aisle” to help advance the policies of our adversaries.
“wow. have you got a source for that?? I would love to show it to some others.”
it was in the text of post #1..
thanks. i will relook.

I’ve also noticed that the states that went for the Big O also are on the top of the bailout list.
