NSSF Update on plans to ban ammunition through impossible "bullet serialization" laws

Update on Bullet Serialization

During the past week the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) -- the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry -- has received inquires concerning state legislation that would require the serialization of ammunition on a mass production basis.

Bullet serialization -- the process by which each individual round of ammunition is identified and marked with a laser engraved serial number -- is not feasible from a practical standpoint and any legislation mandating such action could rightfully be considered a de facto ban on ammunition.

While legislation has been introduced in more than 20 states, NSSF has successfully defeated all of these bills. NSSF will continue to closely monitor state or federal legislation to require bullet serialization and will continue to issue Legislative Alerts to industry members and Second Amendment advocates in those states when bills are introduced or scheduled for a hearing or vote.

Demonstrating the effectiveness of the NSSF Legislative Alert system, several bullet serialization bill sponsors withdrew their bills immediately following public outcry stemming from the NSSF alerts -- in the case of Kentucky, this was within 48 hours of the bill's introduction.

The hateful Left has reluctantly abandoned their gun ban goal so they are coming after ammunition instead. To quote Sen. Schumer: "There is a 200 year supply of guns in the U.S. but only a six month supply of ammunition."

The late Congressman, Tom Lantos, tried to pass this for years.

They can have all my serialized bullets too... one at a time... in highly repetative fashion.

When these fascist piss us off to the point where we turn our Second Amendment Right upon them, then it won’t matter about serialized ammunition, since those who compose the problem will be decomposing in the ground.

I have a 10 year supply, unless the zombies come in waves.

This was one of Hillary Clinton’s ideas a long time ago. States need to put this whole thing on the back burner until they get their economies straightened out. Nothing is more important. If they all pull together, they can fix it. Get rid of all the small stuff.

I think Mr. Schumer has grossly underestimated the supply of ammunition.

He must have based his estimation on the liver-lipped pansy a$$ liberals who would use it up quickly because of their fear of guns and lack of shooting skills. Experienced FReedom loving gun owners are trained to conserve ammo and make every shot a score.

Schumer may be stupid as mouse snot but he has alot of sympathetic (pathetic) friends in high places now. We are close to having no voice at the federal level. Is it time to be concerned — Yup

Is it time to be scared — not if your shots are on target and your heart is in the right place.

"There is a 200 year supply of guns in the U.S. but only a six month supply of ammunition."

First of all, it isn't 6 months for most people I know. Second, the idiot seems to think that desperate enough wouldn't resupply themselves in some fashion or other: theft, bribery, "illegal" importation, and simply picking up of ammo no longer needed by victims of sudden lead poisoning.

They don't call him "Schmuck" Schumer for nothing.

The late Congressman, Tom Lantos, tried to pass this for years.

Upon hearing of Lantos' death, my first thought was "Geez, I hope somebody remembered to drive a stake through his chest and stuff his mouth full of garlic before they buried him." He is neither missed, nor respectfully remembered. Another ungrateful immigrant like Soros who failed to learn the lessons of history, and who unfortunately escaped from a genocidal homeland situation only to establish an internal war against American freedom from within America.

May we have unlimited bullets forever, and never need them.

Considering the gun grabbing BO, his anti gun team and the majority of anti gunners now in congress, what chance will we have to stave off federal regs eliminating any and all ammo sales in the US and how would the Constitution protect against that? Got Bullets?

“...what chance will we have to stave off federal regs eliminating any and all ammo sales in the US and how would the Constitution protect against that?”

Anything which would tend to remove proper operation of our guns would be, it would seem, unconstitutional. But really it is moot: At some point the Constitution ITSELF must be defended rather than relied upon. If we would even begin to regard such a tactic as banning ammo as an ‘acceptable, legal’ maneuver then we deserve to perish as a free nation.

I appreciate your point and agree with your “propper op” analogy. Free Nation? Unfortunatley we have not defended the entire Constitution but that may be necessary under the BO presidency.

That’s so funny because several years ago I tried to launch a “NO VAMPIRES IN CONGRESS” campaign against him.

"...but only a six month supply of ammunition.”

Where? Bi-Mart had a 6 hour supply of ammo. It was gone that fast on November 5th. They'll get more "in a few weeks." Just in time for the Inauguration. Now me personally...well...I guess that depends on my rate of fire.

Last Year it was OSHA Promulgating new rules that would ban carrying of ANY firearm in a workplace where Smokeless powder is stored. This would in effect mean that any Sporting goods store that had Smokeless powder on the premises could not sell Firearms Or it would require the construction of a separate building. After a Comment period they decided to back off saying that was never their intention. They only meant it to apply to places where Powder was being Manufactured.

Recently Washington State EPA is considering new Rules that will Ban all Lead Bearing Ammunition including simple possession. This would be a Felony. Old .22 round in your glovebox, Too Bad, Go to Jail for Five years.

There are perennial efforts to “Serialize” ammo.

We continue to have Bureaucrats Drafting rules that will BAN, TAX or Regulate Ammunition out of existance.

Best Plan is to be sure you have plenty and spread it around
so any future Raid will only find a small amount.
