My guess is that Somali pirate money is funding this and it could be payback. Could be a Pirate platform offshore somewhere. The Italian coastline had to deal with raids similar to this a few centuries ago. Was Berber Islamic pirates back then.

Anything is possible, but for AQ this is too soon for retaliation of that sort; they never do anything without long planning.
That’s a good guess- but it’s tough to get a sense of this yet- though I’m sure there’s some serious interrogating going on with the ones they captured.
