Guns don't kill people, bullets do...unless equipped with a bayonet or used as a club. Does the questioneer ask about kitchen knives or power tools? I've sustained many more injuries from those such things than I have from my guns.
Obama probably gets most of his information concerning guns off of CSI.
More than close, the flames are already raging.
From Change.gov (under Crime and Law Enforcement), the official website of the Office of the President elect:
Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent.
No, I’m not missing any point whatsoever but I like to think on the lighter side once in awhile. After 31 years in LE, I know damned good and well how bureaucrats work, that’s why I chose to remain on the ground level instead of climbing over the backs of fellow officers for promotions.
Also, I’m still in the criminal justice system and in Texas, we are keeping our eyes on some DAs and County Attys who think of nothing but power and the authority to grab someone’s guns or means of personal protection.
It’s a reflection of what when on in this election cycle, lots of “moderate” (read left-wing liberal) idiots out there in power, even in Texas, I don’t trust any of them, I verify all that I can.
The reference to registration is because in the police state of the Peoples Socialist Republic of Illinois, one must have a F.O.ID card (Firearms Owner Identification) and register all guns with the state. The registration is only good for 1 year and has to be renewed every year or the state police will come and arrest you and confiscate your gun/s. You also must have a F.O.ID card to purchase ammunition. No F.O.ID card, no guns, no ammo.
Gotcha. Did not get the sarcasm from your post. Keep up the good work down in Texas.
Just wait. Soon enoughthis questionnaire will be mandatory for ALL job seekers. Don’t have the “right” answers, no job for you when all jobs are government jobs.
Yeah, to be fair, gun registration is required in more than a few places, so I understand why he’s asking this. He doesn’t want someone to bring up the fact that one of his administration had a gun that was not legally registered at some point in time and not be prepared for it. He’s not going to keep someone out of office just because they legally own a firearm, firearm ownership is very common in this country and many liberals own firearms.
For the latter, guns mean plinking, shooting at the range, skeet shooting, hunting - all wholesome and innocent activities, frequently some of our most cherished childhood memories. In very rare and unfortunate cases, guns may mean personal defense. For the former, guns mean crime and danger. The former are the kind of people who raise their children in what I like to call a "condom world": kids can do whatever they want without responsibility. Witness the "safety nets" around modern trampolines, for example. Witness their responsibility-free attitudes about sexuality. Do whatever you want, and we'll remove anything that requires consideration of consequences - like the handgun, like the rifle, more specifically, like bullets.
I enjoy guns - not because I want to use them for anything besides range shooting (or the obvious function of protecting my family from a malevolent intruder if the need ever arose), but because of a genuine interest. I like learning of the 1911 and its history. I like reading about pistol vs. revolver and their respective merits. Why should my interest in this area be any more regulated than my interests in art, in music, in history? I thought America was about freedom, and that one of the cardinal traits of liberalism was its celebration of diversity and freedom of the pursuit of happiness.
Concealed Carry for Me, but not for Thee.
